Job Description

In the position of Group Leader, you and your team are key contributors to the development of Software in ASML’s lithographic products.

Specifically, you:

  • Lead the group (typically 25+ people) and hire, coach and instruct team members. Define and assign targets, evaluates priorities, solves problems, monitors budgets
  • Take care that interaction and stakeholder management with the diverse and relevant parties (research, multidisciplinary D&E groups, CS and customers) is in place
  • Ensure that the group has a balanced focus on providing long and short term solutions and contribute to the definition and implementation of departmental policy and departmental planning, including personnel, budgets, investments, resources and methods etc.
  • Will be the co-owner of the development and maintenance of software technology roadmap. You ensure the availability and adoption of best known methods, standards and tooling. You facilitate an effective learning feedback cycle and manage the relations of other competence owners in and outside ASML.
  • You will be responsible for the planning and allocation of your group members to the various project activities - in cooperation with department managers and project managers.


Master degree in Software Engineering, Computer Sciences, Mathematics or Engineering and a background in software development in a technical environment


  • Over 8 years relevant leadership experience in a technical software development environment or related working environment, preferably as group lead. Knowledge of software development is a must.
  • Affinity with managing integral business processes in fast growing and dynamic business environments.

  • Highly motivated team player with excellent social, coordination and communication skills.

Context of the position

Within ASML, the sector Development & Engineering (D&E) is responsible for the development of ASML products. Within this sector the department Software Infrastructure & Computer Systems (SICS) is responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of the software of the complex lithographic machines.

ASML creates high tech machines; software engineers from SICS are facing several aspects of motion control, production control, data management and Interface control. A huge code base is maintained and under strict configuration management to provide maximum commonality between different machine types.

This position requires access to U.S. controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such U.S. controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with applicants who are immediately eligible to access U.S. controlled technology.
