Are you an expert in tribology or an applied material technologist who wants to become a tribology expert? Do you want to take lead in expanding ASML expertise in this field? Do you want to work in close cooperation with technical cutting-edge projects on DUV Wafer Tables, EUV Wafer Clamps and Wafer Table Cleaning? Then this is an exciting opportunity for you!

Job Mission

ASML is constantly pushing the limits of technology into areas where nobody has gone before. The Tribology competence team takes responsibility for the realization of the interface of wafer tables and clamps with the wafer. The challenge is to go down to very low levels of predictable and stable friction forces that are needed for the required overlay performance, while securing the position of the wafer during imaging and allowing minimum wear impact or enabling methods to recover. This requires close cooperation with the surface scientists within the group who focus on the chemical and physical interactions that take place with the environment and affect the tribology performance.

Job Description

As part of the Tribology & Surface Science group you will be allocated to the multi-disciplinary projects that take responsibility to deliver DUV Wafer Tables, EUV Wafer Clamps and Wafer Table Cleaning units. Your contribution is to ensure the required tribology performance of the wafer contacting surfaces.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead investigations and identify solutions for projects in the field of tribology / contacting surfaces including testing, calculations and data analysis.
  • Lead and expand ASML's tribology competency, which includes early identification of future needs, definition and driving the development plan.
  • Cooperate with tribology experts, surface scientists, material experts and design engineers on material selection and topography definition/realization for current and future needs.
  • Collaborate with universities/knowledge institutes and other high-tech companies.

MSc or PhD degree in:

  • Tribology
  • Material science, applied physics or mechanical engineering with a strong affinity and experience in tribology.

Relevant working experience of 2+ years in the field of tribology.

Experience in the following is highly preferred:

  • Tribology
  • Coating and thin film applications
  • Glass and ceramics
  • Surface chemistry
  • Leading small investigation projects for industry

Personal skills

  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Pro-active attitude.
  • Strong sense of ownership.
  • Solution driven.
  • Good communication and networking skills.
  • Good knowledge of English.

Context of the position

The holder of this position reports to the Group Lead of MC DE DEF C Tribology&Surface Science. The D&E group Tribology & Surface Science is responsible for realizing and preserving surface properties over time in order to secure wafer clamping performance in both DUV and EUV platforms.

Other information

This position requires access to U.S. controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such U.S. controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with applicants who are immediately eligible to access U.S. controlled technology.
