Head of Mechanical Design (m/f/d)

Introduction to the job

We are a high-tech company and leading supplier to the semiconductor industry. We manufacture the complex lithography machines that chip manufacturers use to produce integrated circuits or computer chips. What we do is at the heart of all electronic devices that inform, entertain and connect us. More than 1.400 employees develop and manufacture key components for ASML lithography systems at our facility in Berlin.

As the manager of the Mechanical Design Group you will be responsible for the designers and engineers working on semiconductor wafers, electrostatic chucks and structural components for our ASML scanners that are developed and manufactured in Berlin. You will also create and maintain structures for archiving specifications and logging impending product versions.

Role and responsibilities

• Coordinating the design development of the modules and/or functionality in order to be able to implement the required specification and functionality. The designs must be aligned to responsible product architect and documented by the group's designers

• Optimizing the mechanical design using mechanical model simulations whilst always taking tolerance chain into consideration

• Establishing and controlling design practices that are state-of-the-art and ensure that appropriate designs can be implemented from engineering and supply chain perspectives

• Pushing through the necessary design qualifications Assisting with the specifications for various tests as well as designing and using the test equipment

• Being responsible for the technical product drawings needed to bring the design into production

• The Mechanical Design Group manager also supervises the design engineers in realizing larger assemblies and tools and holistic solutions including the incorporation of design solutions from external parties

• Developing, defining and controlling specification and design documentation structures as well as the structures needed for storing and accessing these documents Interlinked with this is structuring and managing the storing and evaluation of the technical drawings needed for manufacturing the latest product generations

Education and experience

• Degree from a technical college/university in a relevant engineering discipline (mechanics, mechatronics, etc.) Your seniority is based on years of experience in senior positions, proven success and the ability to create and lead a team 

• Good overview of and experience with the necessary documentation structures and configuration management 

• Well-developed analytical ability; ability to design concepts and a pragmatic attitude; ability to convert concepts into practical designs that meet specific requirements 

• Expertise in one of the many sectors required by ASML to design and implement cutting-edge solutions that an industry leader needs to stay well-ahead of the competition 

• Good ability to communicate and collaborate with experts from other disciplines, project managers, etc.
