Internship (DELFT): Concept design of a setup to measure the position of MEMS elements

Are you a Master student in (Applied) Physics or Micromechanics? Do you have affinity with high-precision and high-reproducibility system design? Then this internship could be interesting for you.
In the Delft office of ASML, we are developing a multi-beam electron microscope for in-line wafer inspection. A key module in this electron microscope is the MEMS module. After field-replacing a MEMS module, the new module should end up at the same position as the old one, within micrometer precision.
You will be a member of our Agile Scrum team, which is responsible for design and delivery of the MEMS module. Within the team, you will be responsible for a concept design and trade-off for a setup that measures the position of MEMS elements relative to (mechanical) reference interfaces on the module with high reproducibility. Your design should be compatible for cleanroom operations and human safety. Depending on progress and time, we may start a detailed design phase or design a dedicated test first.
You are a Master student in (Applied) Physics or Micromechanics, You have an affinity with high-precision, high-reproducibility system design and aim for simple solutions. You have good communication skills in English and a pro-active approach in problem solving.
This is a Master apprentice internship or graduation assignment for 5 days a week with duration of a minimum 4 months. The start date is in September 2020.
Please keep in mind that we can only consider students (who are enrolled at a school during the whole internship period) for our internships and graduation assignments.
