The advanced ASML lithography systems are a key component in the manufacturing of almost all advanced memory and logic devices. In the case of performance degradagion or failure, diagnosing such complex systems requires expert knowledge (from design-engineers, field service experts etc) but is mostly performed by generalists (field engineers). If your ambition is to apply your knowledge, personal leadership skills to very complex challenges and you feel excited to develop new approaches around (technical) knowledge management that will significantly improve the diagnosability of such systems in the field, please read further.
Within ASML Research, we developing innovative approaches to bridge this gap, by finding ways to capture expert knowledge from various document types and sources and developing solutions to use this information to support field engineers.

We are looking for a Data Scientists with proven experience in various knowledge representation- and reasoning strategies, graph databases, ontologies etc, to help defining and executing research in the domain of knowledge representation and application, with a strong focus on supporting the system- diagnostic processes. Information will be extracted from various multi-modal sources (text, graphics, structured information sources etc). The research will focus on investigating storage and representation strategies in relation to how the information will be used (i.e. for finding versus reasoning. The research will take place in collaboration with Academic Institutes, ASML D&E and Customer Support departments.
We are looking for a Data Scientist, with proven experience in Knowledge Representation methodologies, graph database and reasoning (formal logic, Bayesian, etc), to join the Data-Science Research team.
•Based on your knowledge, passion and experience you coordinate and participate in projects to prototype knowledge driven solutions,
•You coordinate and participate in projects to prototype NLP, data-representation and application software systems,
•You will interact with other teams in ASML that work on diagnostics and data-analysis. You invest in an academic network, define and support academic research projects in this field.
•Stay abreast of the latest developments in your field of expertise
•Generate patents protecting ASML products
•You are curious by nature, and keep your knowledge up to date by means of reading literature and visiting conferences.
•Since this is a relatively new research field within ASML, you are self propelling and have demonstrated to be able to define research questions and build prototypes.
•You communicate easily, also with academic institutes, and you enjoy to guide, and stimulate others, both internally, but also at universities (i.e. MSc, PhD students)
•PhD / Post-Doctoral researcher in Mathematics, Physics, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning or logic.
•M.Sc. in for instance Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics or Electrical Engineering
•4+ years experience in applied R&D in the field of knowledge representation, reasoning or related fields.
•4+ years experience in applying this type of technologies, preferably in a high-tech context or environment. (Experience working with tools and programming languages related to knowledge representation, reasoning and its applications).
•Ability to communicate complex technical andmathematical concepts in a clear and precise manner.
•Strong affinity in machine-learning and statistical methodologies.
•Experience with leading and motivating a research team.

Context of the position
This project is carried out at ASML Research. You will be a member of the Data-Science Research team. You will interact with your peer data scientists and experts from other disciplines, and build relations with relevant academic research institutes.
