Introduction

Are you a Master student in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management or Econometrics and do you have an interest in Supply Chain Management, statistics (mainly regressions) and learning curves? Then this might be an interesting opportunity for you.

Job Mission

This assignment is of interest to the Customer Supply Chain Management department in ASML. CSCM is responsible for the availability and costs of the spare parts world-wide of our newest Lithography product. You will be part of the team that is making sure – every day - that our customers have the parts they need when one of these systems breaks down.

Job Description

Your assignment will be to reflect on the way ASML introduces new systems at our customers and how the CSCM department learns and improves towards cost optimal stock keeping these spare parts on diverse locations around the globe. We know cost per system depends mainly on installed base size (many systems can be serviced by stock level one), but accumulation of learning in experience must also play a role. Experience is expected to be of influence because of at least 3 reasons: (i) improved demand forecasting >> more efficient inventory management, (ii) stabilizing technological development >> decreasing excess & obsolescence inventory, and (iii) improved diagnostics and engineer skill level >> decrease shipment of unused parts. To investigate, we propose to fit a learning curve using multiple regression to explain cost as a dependent variable using installed base and proxies for experience as independent variables.

Education

Background and/or interest in Supply Chain Management, statistics (mainly regressions) and learning curves.
Typical education background would be a Master in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management or Econometrics. As a person you are interested in the complexity and challenges a large multi-national company such as ASML faces. You are able to take initiative and navigate the organization and the historic data that is available. You are able to theorize possible drivers and detractors of learning in this context and test your hypotheses using the data. And finally you are able to communicate and convince the department and management of your conclusions and recommendations. The internship is expected to take between 6 to 9 months and has a starting date of September 2020.

Please keep in mind that we can only consider students (who are enrolled at a school during the whole internship period) for our internships and graduation assignments.
