Introduction

Are you a Mechanical Engineering student with basic programming capabilities? Are you interested in the creation of a tolerance model? Then this assignment could be interesting for you!

Job Mission

The group Sensors Mechanics is part of the cluster Mechanical Development and is responsible for the design of optical sensor systems, like interferometers and image sensors.
During the design of mechanical parts and assemblies tolerance models are setup in order to predict the capability of manufacturing and assembly processes. The tolerances are assigned during the design process in a way that this models give a decent CpK/PpK-value and are usually done in Excel. However, these models are quite complicated and not easy to use to estimate the implications of real tolerances for a particular manufactured part which is sometimes needed for creating waivers.

Job Description

The task is to create a tolerance model which could be used by supply chain (engineers) to evaluate the effect of mechanical tolerance deviations regarding optical system performance (beam pointing, beam clipping). The aim of the model is to enable supply chain engineers to decide on acceptance/rejection or further investigation (only those three options) of tolerance deviations. Therefore:
 a tolerance model has to be set up;
 which is able to read out (be easily filled with) measured tolerance data;
 the model should regard adjustment means and measures inside the tolerance chain;
 resulting in “green/yellow/red light” indication for acceptance;
 the model needs to be easy accessible for supply chain engineers (baseline: Excel based - not a must).

Education

You are in your final year of your Bachelor studies or in the beginning of your Master’s. You have a background in Mechanical Engineering or something related. Understanding of mechanical tolerances and design and basic programming capabilities are preferred. Experience with manufacturing and/or quality management processes is an advantage. The English language is required.

This is a Bachelor graduation or a Master apprentice internship for 5 days a week with a duration of about 3 months up to 6. The start date is as soon as possible.

Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.
