Are you a Bachelor or Master student in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering? Do you have hands-on mindset, strong analytical skills and are able operate within a multi-disciplinary team? Then this graduation project could be interesting for you!
Mechatronic Systems Development provides cutting edge mechatronics solutions for ASML products. These include stages to transport and position the wafer within the machine. For these and other mechatronic applications linear electrical actuators are being used. These type of actuators are commonly used in our Lithography systems. Because of the high throughout demands high force density actuators are being used. As a consequence, power dissipation in in the coils of these actuators is high and active cooling is required. In ASML actuators special development attention is taken to maintain optimal thermal efficiency to prevent failure during operation. Therefore several tests are developed and available for thermal actuator qualifications. Beside this, an IR-camera can also be used to detect possible internal actuator issues by observing the thermal imaging during operation. With this IR(Infrared) information post process analysis can be done to identify these possible issues/imperfections in the actuator.
In this assignment you will:
- Setup thermal FEM model (using Comsol) with the basic linear actuator features.
- FEM study to quantify typical (time dependent) effects using your model.
- Use the FEM results to setup real lab experiments to verify the theory.
- Optimize test parameters settings using your test setup.
- Report the IR-analysis findings with the possibilities, limitations and advise.
- Optional1; Define / design a generic test setup for IR-analysis.
- Optional2; Build and release the test setup for the Actuator Lab/
Bachelor or Master student in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, hands-on mindset, strong analytical skills, being able to operate within a multi-disciplinary team. Skilled in MATLAB, 3D modelling, preferably with prior experience in imaging processing and thermal FEA simulation.
This is a bachelor graduation or bachelor/master apprentice internship for 5 days a week with duration of a minimum 6 months.
Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.
