Job Mission

Within ASML the Release Train Engineer (RTE) is the recognized Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) expert, who orchestrates the Agile Release Train (ART) to maximize value flow through the organization. The RTE together with the Chief Product Owner ensures great performance of the train and provides full transparency on what is going on in the ART.

Job Description

You will be the lean/agile leader of a large team (~150 FTE). Although you have no authority over Scrum team members, you do have authority over the process and play a crucial role in challenging the team to become the best it can be.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • To ensure deliveries committed by the ART (Agile Release Train) in the Program Increment (PI) event by removing ART impediments and managing ART dependencies.
  • To create transparency and alignment on ART status by setting up, coordinating and facilitating agile rituals like PI Planning events and Scrum of scrums
  • To optimize flow by tracking, reporting, measuring ART performance, managing risks, maintaining ART integration cadence and installing continuous delivery
  • To work together with the key stakeholders to keep the ART stable and manage external interferences so that they do not interrupt with the focus of the teams in the ART
  • To provide analyses of the effectiveness of rituals inside the ART, evaluate bottlenecks and advice regarding improvements in ART rituals
  • To represent ART performance (e.g. predictability, efficiency, employee engagement)
  • Supplier and sector ritual management (prepare, plan ritual, include ritual in PI plans, facilitate ritual)


Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Embedded Systems or equivalent.


  • 3+ years of work experience in an RTE (or similar) role within a high-tech, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Professional experience with SAFe (RTE and SPC certifications are a plus)
  • Extensive coaching of Agile, Lean and SAFe
  • Experience with change management within a complex environment
  • Large group facilitation
  • Experience leading multi-year, big scope projects
  • Change leadership, continuous improvement and process management
  • Strong technical background (preferably within complex embedded environments) is a strong plus

Context of the position

You will be the agile leader for the Image Sensors ART. The ART is composed of about 150 engineers and scientists organized in 16 Scrum teams, developing state-of-the-art Image Sensors (hardware and software) for DUV and EUV machines.

This position requires access to U.S. controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such U.S. controlled technology prior to beginning work.
