EUV optics is the heart of the ASML scanner. It consists of highly complex optics with multilayer mirrors reflecting and focusing extreme ultraviolet light. These mirrors have to operate in extremely aggressive environment of high-energy radiation, reactive plasma and gas radicals and at high temperature for several years without degrading to ensure scanner productivity. Optics lifetime group aims to achieve optimal and reliable EUV system performance by predicting and securing EUV optics lifetime, through contamination control and prevention of optical degradation. Within the OLT group the HIO / Oxidation (HIO2) team works on optics lifetime models, mechanisms and mitigations for Hydrogen Induced Outgassing (HIO) and mirror oxidation.
Current hydrogen induced outgassing contamination models for optics are based on sum of individual contaminants where interaction between contaminants is neglected. The main goal of the project is to investigate how different contaminants and contaminant levels, individually and when combined, influence the matrix composition under hydrogen plasma environment conditions in test setups. You will work closely with engineers within the team to define a test-plan on HIO as input for optics lifetime models. You will execute the tests and perform material analysis at an external lab and report the results. Tests will be performed in cooperation with the Plasma-Material Interaction (PMI) team, who is responsible for the test equipment. This project allows for combined hands-on work with planning, analyzing and reporting and you will have the opportunity to present your results to your colleagues from different teams.
You are a Master student in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science or a related discipline.
- You are an experimentalist who has a hands-on mentality.
- You are proactive, who is capable of working accurately and maintaining overviews in a dynamic environment.
- Furthermore, the English language is required, both written and verbally.
This is an Master apprentice or master graduation internship for 4 to 5 days a week with duration of 5-8months. The start date is as soon as possible.
Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.
