Thermal Engineer Machine Conditioning
Research & development
In a nutshell
Research & development
Mechanical engineering, Physics
Thermal energy is everywhere around us, and goes everywhere. On one hand we put hundreds of kilowatts into our machines to get things moving and illuminated, whereas on the other hand we are concerned about milliwatts, microkelvins and ultimately picometers of thermal expansion. All to get good optical performance in our lithography and metrology machines, that are used in semiconductor chip manufacturing.
ASML’s Development & Engineering (D&E) sector is responsible for the specification, design and integration of the ASML machines. In this sector, the department of Machine Conditioning (MC), specifies, designs and does the functional integration of the various (sub-)modules and architectures related to the flow and thermal domains.
As Thermal Engineer, are you able to bridge the gap between detail and overview? Will you propose bright design solutions with impact on our next generation machines? Will you be able to balance a robust thermal design with other critical design parameters?
This position may require access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
As Thermal Engineer you help build high tech machines, and an average day may look like this:
You align with your team leader and colleagues from different disciplines on priorities and possible escalation support. You also discuss the next tough steps on the heat and flow analysis you have been building up for months.
Later that day, after dressing up for the clean room you collect the latest measurement results from the test setup you programmed and designed to isolate the thermal effect under investigation. Don’t forget to prepare the presentation for the comparison between your theoretical analysis and the empirical results. You will need it to convince the stakeholders of your design-change proposal.
Technical Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics or a closely related field of study.
- Specialization in thermal engineering
- Solidunderstanding of System Control.
- Highly motivated team player with excellent social, coordination and communication skills
- Able to perform in highly dynamic environment
- Ability to organize work effectively and having a systematic approach in problem solving
- Ability to provide technical direction, motivate and convince a team of professionals
- Pragmatic and result-oriented attitude
- Good communication skills and good command of the English language (both written and verbal).
Context of the position
The department source and apps is part of the Machine Conditioning (MC) cluster of development and engineering (D&E) within ASML. The task of this department is to develop, deliver, integrate and qualify functional modules & parts of ASML’s lithography tools related to temperature control and gas conditioning. Technology areas are: gas, vacuum and water flow and pressure control, fluid architecture and design, temperature control.
ASML creates the conditions that enable you to realize your full potential. We provide state-of-the-art facilities, opportunities to develop your talents, international career opportunities, a stimulating and inspiring environment, and most of all, the commitment of a company that recognizes and rewards outstanding performance.
