The Application Support Engineer will play a key role in supporting a suite of Engineering Applications hosted on Windows environments (VDI’s or Desktops) and integrating those applications fully with an adjacent Linux based High Performance Computing cluster.
The role would involve intimate knowledge in the administration of both Windows and Linux environments in a hybrid configuration. A successful candidate would have prior knowledge and experience in the use of Commercial engineering applications in the realm of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
The mission of the incumbent is to offer end-to-end application support for the Engineering applications detailed above. The incumbent is to seek to improve application availability, solver solution reliability, and to seek opportunities for job turn-around-time (TAT) reduction.

We are looking for a Mid-level to Senior-level Applications Support engineer with Engineering Simulation Application knowledge and experience.
The incumbent will function as part of a larger DevOps team and as such he/she will have both development and operational tasks to perform. A successful candidate will be trained on Agile practices and DevOps ways of working. He/she will join a 6 person DevOps scrum team.
In an operational capacity the role will involve the day-to-day troubleshooting of the application space providing first-line application support to an end-user community of approximately 50 users. On-boarding of new hires to the application space is also included in the operational role.
In an development capacity, the incumbent will be tasked with driving a program of continuous improvement – seeking to improve end-user efficiency by increasing application availability, solver solution reliability, and to seek opportunities for job turn-around-time (TAT) reduction.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in a related field; with a preference for degrees in Computer Science/Engineering or Physics.
Preferred candidates will have experience with one or more of the following:
Experience with supporting end users of Applications such as Ansys or Comsol
Experience with supporting end users of the Siemens NX suite of tools.
Preferred candidates will have experience with three or more of the following:
A background in scientific/research computing
Experience in managing the above in a hybrid environment with a Windows front-end and Linux backend.
HPC or batch workloads in Linux - experience with PBS, PBSPro or IBM LSF batch systems.
Scripting in Windows using PowerShell
Scripting in Linux using bash.
General Windows and Linux System Administration
Any prior experience in migration projects such as Desktop to VDI or Desktop to cloud would be a significant advantage in this role.
Excellentwritten and verbal communication skills
Ability to work closely with other engineers, product managers and customer support
