Job Mission

You will effectively lead an area of our Optics manufacturing operations across 3 shifts with 5+ direct reports and a total organization size of 30+ employees. You will ensure safe, on-time delivery of high quality product to your customers (internal and external) while leading improvements in process and operational effectivity and efficiency. You will continuously seek out, foster, and spearhead improvements to all aspects of your operational area. You will engage in adoption and industrialization of new products and new processes through a strong partnership with Production and Development Engineers. This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Job Description

An Optical Fabrication Functional Area Group Leader will be responsible for:

  • Coaching and mentoring your team of managers and technicians for success and growth.
  • With minimal supervision, leading a team of shift leaders and technicians to fabricate precision optics while meeting or exceeding department and product Key Performance Indicators. These include, but are not limited to: safety; product first pass yield; on-time delivery; production lead time; labor efficiency; 5S; and workforce development and upskilling.
  • Maintaining alignment of individual, team, and area goals to department and Company objectives.
  • Establishing a coordinated and seamless 3-shift operation.
  • Developing and maintain strategies that assure the achievement of internal and external customer requirements.
  • Anticipating resource requirements and allocate/request accordingly in order to meet department goals.
  • Creating, maintaining, and monitoring work schedules with clearly defined priorities.
  • Facilitating identification and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives within your area and across the department.
  • Displaying structured systematic problem solving, innovative problem resolution, and encouraging new ideas and methods that are applied with rigorous experimentation and change control.
  • Developing competencies within the department that focus on technical skills, continuous improvement, teambuilding, and cross-training.
  • Leading by example, encourage personal motivation in an effort to achieve world class quality and performance
    Working effectively with peers across departments to meet goals and maintain production continuity.
  • Communicating effectively at all levels of the organization, spanning ability to gain buy-in from technicians to the ability to influence executives.
  • Administrative duties of the department, including time and attendance record-keeping and performance/merit reviews.
  • Administering and enforcing company policies and procedures in a direct and consistent manner.
  • Working with Human Resources on disciplinary issues and hiring decisions.


Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent experience.

  • A degree in engineering or related field desired.


  • 5+ years directly or indirectly supervising hourly employees in a complex production environment.
  • 3+ years managing salaried employees.
  • Strong business and manufacturing operation acumen.
  • Strong LEAN manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience – you can demonstrate a history of operational improvement through effective collaboration with your employees and across your partner organizations.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Outlook 365 applications, with knowledge of SAP or comparable ERP system a plus.
  • Familiar with ISO9001 and ISO14001. Direct working experience in a ISO certified environment desirable.
  • Prior optical fabrication and coating experience a plus, but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal, coaching, and teambuilding skills.
  • Strong analytical skills – capable of translating requirements into an executable schedule.
  • Strong problem solving skills – able to identify and structurally solve problems in a timely manner.
  • Use data and sound judgment in decision making.
  • Constructively challenge the status quo in search of a better way.
  • Situational leadership skills to balance mandates for urgency with buy-in for structural change.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage changing priorities.

Other information

  • May be exposed to moving mechanical parts, solvents and tooling.
  • May also be exposed to laser energy and magnetic fields.
  • Production areas are maintained at 70 to 75 degrees and 35-50% RH.

Role within Office


  • Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Occasionally required to move around the campus.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • May require travel dependent on business needs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Role within the Factory


  • Must be willing to work in a clean room environment, wearing coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses and gloves for entire duration of shift.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Can work under deadlines.
  • The environment generally is moderate in temperature with moderate to high noise level.
  • Must be willing to work a compressed work week schedule – twelve-hour long shift and rotating from three to four days a week.
  • This must include references to day and night shifts for accommodation purposes.
