Software Engineering Internship: Standalone analysis tool for Productivity

Computer science & software engineering

In a nutshell

Veldhoven, Netherlands

No experience (Student)

Job Category

Computer science & software engineering

Are you a bachelor student with background in Engineering and affinity with Software? Do you have knowledge of Python? Does the creation of a Python-based standalone tool sounds fascinating? Then this internship could be interesting to you!

Background Information

The integrated circuit production process consists of stacking layers to build “3-D electronic circuits”. Each layer is created by projecting an image onto a substrate or wafer. This process is repeated on batches of multiple wafers, called LOTs. The throughput (speed of execution) of such a LOT is determined by many parameters: used image, used energy (“light”), capability of the system to transport a wafer, etc.

The LOT characteristics are the basis of determining the system’s real capability of number of wafers per day or “Productivity”. This is where ProdMon comes in: ProductivityMonitoring is an ASML software application capable of monitoring all “productivity” related parameters, for multiple machines, over a large span of time. This helps the customer controlling the performance of all ASML systems in his fab.

Your Assignment

All of ProdMon logging (actions) are stored in a text-file. In this internship you will create a Python-based standalone tool to increase analysis efficiency of this logging by:

  • Detecting and filtering out specific event-sections;
  • Searching and reporting all lines that contain a user-defined string;
  • Finding and reporting specific events which happen repeatedly;
  • Replacing filtered set of events by 1 message in the text-file;
  • Creating a UI which shows the (filtered) text-file;
  • Incorporating functionality to save filtered data as text;
  • Creating a UI which incorporates the above functions;
  • All this in a windows-based standalone executable tool.

You are a bachelor student with background in Software Engineering or general in engineering and with affinity with Software;

  • You are interest in conducting your graduation project at ASML, this is a graduation internship;
  • You have knowledge of Python;
  • You have proven experience with SW-suites and preferably have made a standalone application;
  • You are fluent in English (speak/write);
  • You are capable of working both independently and in a team;
  • You have a can do / will do mentality.
  • You are available for 5 days a week with a duration of a minimum 3 months.
  • Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship

    ASML: Be part of progress
    We make machines that make chips – the hearts of the devices that keep us informed, entertained and safe; that improve our quality of life and help to tackle the world’s toughest problems.

    We build some of the most amazing machines that you will ever see, and the applications to run them. Never satisfied, we measure our performance in units that begin with pico or nano.

    We believe we can always do better. We believe the winning idea can come from anyone. We love what we do – not because it’s easy, but because it’s hard. At ASML we are always pushing technology further.

    Students: Getting ready for the real-world
    Teamwork is key within ASML. Our R&D team is more than 5,500 people strong and worldwide we form one big team with over 25,000 employees. These colleagues have 123 different nationalities and work at our major sites on three continents.

    Dozens of diverse, interdisciplinary teams work in parallel to meet a challenging development schedule. In this inspiring environment, your colleagues may be sitting next door, or they could be thousands of kilometers away in a different country, or even working for a different company.

    An internship at ASML is your opportunity to get to know this world and get a feel for that excites you most. Use your education, gain real-life working experience and explore the world of high-tech – all at the same time.

    How will you be part of progress?
