Job Mission

This person will be responsible for driving Reliability programs to improve the DUV product performance and ensure Cymer is positioned as the leader & premier supplier of Lithography light sources. The role will have responsibility for problem identification, root cause analysis in partnership with Failure Analysis (FA) and Engineering teams, product solution definition and implementation planning in partnership with Product Management, Engineering, Operations and Technical Support. Success will be measured by Reliability metrics and customer satisfaction as a direct result of their perception of the superior performance and value of Cymer products. In addition, lead the continued transformation and development of core competencies to institutionalize effective Reliability practices into Cymer’s products, installed base and supplier development. Leverage and extend 6 sigma closed loop methodologies that enable product characterization and improvement.

This position may require access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require the Company to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Job Description

  • Problem investigation – understands Cymer technology and engineering capabilities, becomes product “expert” in DUV product line. Engage with engineering, manufacturing and technical support teams to develop understanding of product issues specifically impacting customer satisfaction & product performance with supporting details & data.
  • Ability to communicate and engage in cross-functional teams to position problem background, importance, priority and impact based on issue(s). Learn and utilize Cymer business applications to aid with investigation of product issues and extract data to facilitate understanding of problem statement.
  • Product Solution – participate and drive cross functional teams understanding of root cause for existing and new DUV product reliability issues and partner with engineering to develop solutions which have high impact in performance improvement. Develop updates which include data, timelines with actions & owners and communicate progress during development solution phase.
  • Engage and define implementation plans with Operations & Product Management for targeted installed base lasers. Measure solution effectiveness of reliability improvement and ensure issue(s) have been eliminated at customers.
  • Program Management – action oriented by driving product solution plan(s) and implementation execution for the DUV product platform. Strong ownership in resolving problems and driving solutions that can be realized at customers. Continual drive for increased Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) – maximize customer uptime at competitive cost of ownership.
  • Participate on other company cross functional teams and projects as required to drive reliability improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • BS or advanced degree in technology (e.g.) engineering, physics, ME or EE or equivalent


  • At least 5 years of relevant, work related Project Management experience.
  • 10 years Semi-conductor industry experience or equivalent is a plus.
  • Experience with product development phases and validation and field readiness deliverables.
  • Experience working alongside a technical team and influencing technical solutions.
  • Experience leading teams and participating as team member in a matrix organization, managing non-direct reports.
  • Experienced with using applications supporting communication and planning.
  • Proven stakeholder management capabilities. Ability to prioritize and escalate.
  • PCCSTRAIM/8D methodology, issue resolution methodology, FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and product quality measurements.
  • Able to evaluate data and make conclusions, and strong problem solving skills.
  • Able review technical documents and enrich quality of engineering documentation.
  • Interfacing with high level management internally and with customers.
