Introduction to the job

Are you a team player that likes to take a leading role in ad hoc troubleshooting challenging technical issues in a manufacturing environment?

Watch the following video to learn more about ASML and the advanced systems we produce: ASML IN ONE MINUTE.

ASML's EUV factor is responsible for both production and installation of NXE and EXE systems. We are therefore facing a lot of ad hoc technical issues (80%) which are typically solved by the work-centers (self-reliance) and 20% is too difficult to be solved by generalists and is escalated to specialists: the First Line Support (FLS) competence engineers.

As a Senior First Line Support competence engineer at ASML, your mission is to be in lead as a problem owner to drive technical solutions within production. You will also have to minimize downtime on our tools and ensure maximum quality to our customers.

Role and responsibilities

As engineer, you are troubleshooting ad hoc technical problems on ASML NXE and/or EXE systems in Veldhoven and worldwide (during installation phase) with a target on solving power of 95%. Calibrating and testing a system in manufacturing typically is done by engineers who solve the easy issues. We support these engineers in case of difficult issues, mostly from outside the cleanroom, but if needed inside the cleanroom at the machine or occasionally onsite at customer locations worldwide.

We have 11 competences within FLS and you can focus on one competence. We will help you identify a suitable competence, but we would also like to hear which one excites you the most:

  • Wafer stage / Wafer handler;
  • Reticle stage / Reticle handler;
  • Illumication / Projection;
  • Measurement;
  • Drive Laser;
  • Plasma qualification;
  • System qualification;
  • Flow, Temp. Control & Vacuum systems;
  • Electrical Layout & Software;
  • Dynamics / Defectivity;
  • Layout.

All competence engineers will be focusing on:

  • Analyzing and solving complex problems which may occur;
  • Arrange proper follow up to precent disturbances from re-occurring by feeding the issue resolution process in cooperation with Manufacturing Engineering and D&E'
  • Enable self-supportiveness of the engineers at the machines by knowledge sharing;
  • Participate and take the lead in continuous improvement projects.

Education and experience

To help us tackle the technical challenges we face, you need:

  • BSc (with at least 2 years of experience) or MSc / PhD (recent graduates to 7 years of experience) technical degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electronics, (Applied) Physics, Biomechanics or similar education on university level that requires highly technical analytical skills.
  • Experience in, or at least affinity with a production environment with high tech products and complex production processes, focusing on troubleshooting: analyzing complex problems, finding root cause and driving rapid technical solution.

Skills

Working at the cutting edge of tech, you’ll always have new challenges and new problems to solve – and working together is the only way to do that. You won’t work in a silo. Instead, you’ll be part of a creative, dynamic work environment where you’ll collaborate with supportive colleagues. There is always space for creative and unique points of view. You’ll have the flexibility and trust to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems.

To thrive in this job, you’ll need the following skills:

  • Troubleshooting;
  • Strong analytical mindset;
  • Team player;
  • Flexibility in thinking, traveling, time/work and dealing with change;
  • Good social and communication skills, broad technical knowledge;
  • Pragmatic attitude: very active, plenty of initiative;

In this role, you will:

  • Work in shifts: mild shift schedule containing 10 dayshifts, 5 evening, 1 weekend in 4 weeks (no night). Call-out support during public holidays.
  • Travel up to ~20%. Split in partially escalation base/ad hoc at customer sites and partially on plannable regular base at an ASML office in different time zone (to cover night shift in European time zone).
