The advanced ASML lithography systems are a key component in the manufacturing of almost all advanced memory and logic devices. Designing diagnostics strategies to timely detect the cause of performance degradation or failures of these systems is an highly advanced technical challenge. Within ASML Research, innovative approaches for diagnosing our complex Lithography systems are developed. These approaches combine model-based and data-driven strategies, involving data mining, anomaly detection, machine-learning, model-based approaches and strategies to capture Lithography scanner- and field feedback knowledge.

Role and responsibilities

In this challenging position, you will be responsible for identifying and prototyping potential advanced diagnostic strategies and solutions that will support significant accuracy in detecting performance drift and speed-up of the diagnostic process.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for identifying potential novel diagnostic strategies or state-of-the-art solutions in a cross-functional team context:

  • Based on your knowledge and experience in statistics and machine learning, you will identify experimental and data-driven solutions for drift-detection and error-finding.
  • You participate and coordinate the development of hard- and software solutions and tests, executed on systems at the ASML facilities, or processing customer data.
  • Where applicable, you develop ways to incorporate (existing) system models and system knowledge which, combined with data-driven and statistical approaches on system data, result in significant improvements in diagnostic capabilities in the field.
  • You create predictive and diagnostic models which you test on actual system data.
  • You will interact with other teams in ASML that work on diagnostics and data-analysis. You invest in an academic network, define and support academic research projects in this field.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in your field of expertise.
  • Generate patents protecting ASML products.

Education and experience

  • PhD in Physics, (Electrical, Mechanical) Engineering, or Mathematics.
  • 4+ years experience in applied research related to complex systems analysis, design or diagnostics.
  • Proven experience in diagnostics of complex industrial systems with the use of various experimental, data science, statistical and machine learning methodologies.
  • Experience in applied statistics and Data Science.

Context of the position

This project will be carried outat ASML-Research. The project is further part of an intensive collaborationwith other departments within the ASML organization.

This position may require access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
