Job Mission

ASML is seeking an Technical Project Lead to manage the activities of materials characterization (Forensics) team for metrology and process development of ultra-high precision flat optics and ceramics. This person will join the Advanced Development Center in Wilton, Connecticut - A Research and Development team focused on proto-typing of next generation wafer/reticle clamping systems. The main job function is to manage development of characterization tools, software and business process needed to secure the measurement and data analysis that will aid in securing the performance and cycle time of wafer/reticle clamping systems.

This position may require access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). As a condition of employment, qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require the Company to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Job Description

The main focus of this position will be to:

  • Provide leadership and direction for a small team of material scientists, engineers and physicists to secure metrology tools (e.g. SEM, White light interferometer, friction testing, etc.)
  • Create finger print data of each unit on multiple reticle and wafer clamping units
  • Create automated software for analysis, database, Big data and machine learning tools to correlate initial finger print and end of life fingerprint with system performance at customer
  • Manufacturing process to create Feedback loop to improve design and manufacturing

Responsibilities include:

  • Plan and prioritize team activities
    • Create detailed plans (MS Project)
    • Define deliverables for the engineers
  • Manage the team structure
    • Set up a team structure that matches the work content of the work-breakdown structure
    • Understand an utilize the proper escalation paths and acts accordingly
    • Understand project interdependencies and manage them effectively
  • Delegate tasks and follow up
    • Run efficient project meetings
    • Delegate necessary tasks to the team
    • Capture and publish meeting minutes and action items consistently
    • Keep daily control
  • Manage system interdependencies
    • Learn and understand how your technical deliverables interact and link to other subsystems – manage the interdependencies
  • Sufficient technical expertise to help drive technical solutions and solve difficult problems
  • Risk management
    • Assess (routinely) risks (e.g. performance, reliability, cost risks, etc.)
    • Understand operation risks – plan mitigation actions
  • Routinely prepare and deliver status reports to senior management
  • Some travel (~ 20%) to Europe, Asia and within the US can be expected


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or other related disciplines with 5+ years of experience in technical project management


  • Master's Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or other related disciplines with 3+ years of experience in technical project management


  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or other related disciplines with 1+ year of experience in technical project management


  • Minimum qualifications – the hired candidate must possess all of the minimum qualifications to be initially considered for the position including:
    • Minimum # of years of relevant experience (see above in Education)
    • Must have the leadership capability to lead engineers and technicians in executing activities related to complex development of optical/ceramic manufacturing and metrology equipment/software
    • Expertise at anticipating and solving complex problems in manufacturing, diagnostics and development environment by using analytical processes (e.g. 8Ds, fault trees, Ishikawa diagrams, etc.)
    • Proven ability to create plans, exhibit complete ownership of the deliverables and deliver results on-time with quality
    • Must have the capability to clearly communicate progress and status of ongoing activities to managers and to customers
    • Clear understanding of measurement techniques (e.g. interferometry, scatterometry, optical sensor, SEM, AFM. etc.)
    • Knowledge and understanding of data analysis (e.g. MATLAB, Python) is preferred
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills and a commitment to achieving results on time

Other Information

  • This position is located on-site in Wilton, CT. It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation
  • A flexible workplace arrangement may be available to employees working in roles conducive to remote work (up to 2 days a week)
