This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). The EUV source team in San Diego operates in a fast-paced, uniquely innovative, and challenging environment to create new-to-industry solutions with rapid productization to support an aggressive commercialization plan for the EUV technology within ASML. The Metrology team is responsible for definition, development, verification, integration, and support of metrology modules, including sensors, cameras, illuminating light sources, and supporting electrical modules.

Role and responsibilities

The Engineering Project Manager will assume the role of Main Delivery Owner (MDO) for EUV source metrology modules, and support the overall metrology project manager. The primary responsibility of MDO is to manage the engineering activities of EUV source metrology modules. This includes but is not limited to creating and tracking schedules, budgets, costs, performance targets, resource plans, and general planning activities for a set of EUV source metrology deliverables. The MDO is responsible for ensuring that the proper elements of the Product Generation Process (PGP) are known and adhered to across the engineering team, as well as assessing risk and mitigation strategies, highlighting issues and managing their solutions, and coordinating the various development activities to ensure good cross-project communication. This includes but is not limited to creating, organizing and tracking schedules, resource plans, performance targets, budgets, costs, and general planning activities for a set of metrology deliverables.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the engineering activities within a metrology project for EUV source metrology modules.
  • Creates, tracks, and ensures schedules, budgets, costs, performance targets (specifications), resource plans, manufacturability, reliability, and other general engineering planning activities.
  • Provides a broad metrology design and integration background and, if needed by the team, performs daily tasks usually done by the engineers on the team: from data analysis to testing/qualification to escalation management
  • Ensures good cross-functional communication (through effective meetings, email, and other means) to ensure coordination between Engineering functional areas and other groups/departments.
  • Supports the overall metrology project manager (provides information, fill-in during absence, etc.) as required.
  • Supports the Engineering Change (EC) processes for the responsible deliverables.
  • Ensures successful completion of responsible modules and system-level testing, compliance/reliability testing, life testing, and any activity required as part of the product’s release into manufacturing.
  • Ensures that the PGP / Scaled Agile is communicated and followed within the project’s engineering team.
  • Manages the effective usage of the Design Review Process within the project’s engineering team and facilitate necessary approvals.
  • Assesses and highlights risks and develops mitigation plans.
  • Proactively communicates issues and manages the solution paths.
  • Ensures proper documentation is completed for each development activity, and that adequate documentation exists for product manufacturing (test procedures, drawings, BOMs – Build of Material).
  • Performs post-mortem reviews on key developments and provides feedback to the overall metrology project.
  • Interprets, implements, and monitors modifications to department methods, processes and policies that affect multiple work groups.
  • Leads engineering and cross-functional team members consisting of engineers and architects.
  • Manages scope, quality and delivery of external manufacturer's and/or designers when applicable.
  • Accountable for creation of Engineering documentation and specifications from component to product level for assigned deliverables.
  • Provides input and plans for project related expense to the metrology project manager.
  • Supports new product introduction to manufacturing by providing production process design requirements, test documentation, and problem solving.
  • Creates presentations as required to support internal and external program reviews.
  • Mentoring engineers on processes and deliverables.
  • Supports customer technical communications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and experience

  • Requires a minimum Bachelor’s Degree in science and engineering such as optics, physics, electrical, or mechanical engineering.Advanced Degree preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of four (4) years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree, 2 years of experience required with Advanced Degree (master’s or doctorate).
  • Project management experience leading complex technical projects/activities strongly preferred.
  • Experience with semiconductor capital equipment industry is a plus.
  • Experience with data collection, statistical analysis, and report summarization.Effectively reports problems through written and/or graphical formats.
  • Understanding and experience in escalation management.
  • Concept of metrology system principles and product development principles.
  • Ability to access and plan staffing requirements for projects and technical/non-technical qualifications/capabilities of staff members.
  • Ability to lead and manage engineering teams to successfully meet their commitments.
  • Sufficient technical knowledge and experience to be able to communicate effectively with the internal and external engineering teams, and to check/review their plans and progress.
  • Ability to effectively convey information in graphical and chart formats.
  • Good meeting practices (proper attendance, agendas, start/stop times, minutes, actions, follow-through).
  • Ability to adapt processes to improve inefficiencies and accelerate product development.
  • Ability to define and track short and long-term goals and resources.
  • Understanding of engineering control, control rules, and tools.
  • Ability to read and optimize engineering documentation.
  • Ability to plan and execute experiments (DOE) preferred.
  • Ability to construct and release Bills of Materials and associated documentation.
  • Experience with optical design and analysis software (e.g. Zemax) is a plus.
  • Experience with mechanical design software e.g. NX is a plus.
  • Experience with advanced data acquisition and analysis tools (e.g. LabView, MATLAB, Python) is a plus.
  • Ability to access and predict design cost is a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with MS PROJECT and JIRA is a plus.
