ASML is the world's leading provider of lithography systems for the semiconductor industry, manufacturing complex machines that are critical to the production of integrated circuits or chips.
Multi-beam electron microscope inspection tools are part of ASML’s holistic lithography portfolio. These machines help our customers ensure quality in their fabs. ASML has an Electron Optical competence center in Delft, with multi-disciplinary teams, where we combine Research with Development & Engineering and deliver modules and system designs for the Multi-beam Inspection products.

Job Mission
We are looking for an experienced firmware engineer who will join one of the teams that focus on developing electronics and hardware drivers for electron-optical systems, as well as the relevant test setups. Together with the team you translate requirements to subsequent firmware implementations and deliver modules that drive and control the various systems in the heart of the electron microscopes. The inspection systems we make will be directly used by the largest names in the industry, so reliability, safety and quality are paramount.

Role and responsibilities

At ASML-Delft we focus on the electron-optical system modules of the multi-beam systems. These modules need to be controlled either by the user or in an automated way by other modules. Control units and hardware drivers are the focus of your work, and are pivotal in the performance, reliability & safety of the machine as a whole. Such control units interface with a variety of other electrical systems which can be both analog and digital in nature. Because we need our systems to be highly reliable and deterministic, we prefer to work with FPGAs as a basis for our systems. In this complex environment we need you to be able to:
- Translate functional- & performance requirements into a system architecture
- Select hardware components (processing architectures) that will get the job done
- Develop subsequent firmware logic/software in VHDL, Verilog
- Actively participate in design processes and collaborate with experts in the fields of electrical and software engineering and with external suppliers
- Operate as a team-player in cross-functional teams
- Deliver good quality in your documentation

Education and experience

You have a MSc or BSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other relevant field. Other engineering backgrounds will be considered if working experience demonstrates suitable & applicable skills.

- You have a minimum of 3-7 year of relevant working experience in the field of FPGA architectures, and are subsequently able to coach others in this field
- You have experience with selecting computer architectures for control system- & driver applications and additionally you understand the intricacies of designing general electrical architectures in this scope.
- You have strong skills in technical writing and communication with stakeholders
- Any prior experience in the lithography, inspection or manufacturing industry is a plus
- You have experience with industry standard digital communication protocols
- Firmware experience with CPU architectures and subsequent skills in C or embedded programming will be considered as a plus, but will not be called upon in your daily job.
- Experience in python scripting

Context of the position
ASML’s Development & Engineering (D&E) sector is responsible for the specification, design and realization of all products in the ASML portfolio and has a department in Delft.
Within the D&E sector, our department is responsible for functions, modules, technical competences and qualification tools for inspection equipment, in particular multi-beam electron microscopes.
This position is in principle full time (40h) and is located in Delft, Zuid Holland, the Netherlands.
