Introduction to the job

The Material Planning Manager is key to managing and developing staff who are responsible for ensuring the flow of all incoming supplier materials, managing inventory levels, reducing waste, and driving performance improvements throughout the external supply chain.The Material Planning Manager directs the daily activities of personnel engaged to manage the supply versus demand of build components, executing reschedule in and reschedule out MRP signals,and driving improved supplier delivery performance.They will support resolution of material shortage risk, backlogs, and other potential schedule interruptions to the factory in an effort to support demand from internal and external customers.They develop and maintain business models and best practices in a fast paced NPI environment.The Material Planning Manager reports to the Head of Planning & Logistics.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with applicants who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Role and responsibilities

Responsible for supervising and ensuring execution of Material Planning activities:

  • Ensures manufacturing material requirements are met in a timely manner by the Material Planning team via managing the supply requirements of material through new buy and repair/refurbishment activities.Leads methods for analyzing and executing MRP planned supply signals and coordinates activities across multiple groups including but not limited to Manufacturing, Planning, Engineering, Purchasing, and external supply base
  • Exercises high degree of discretion and judgment, establishes priorities and delegates tasks to lower-level support personnel.
  • Oversees transfer of New Product Introduction materials into industrialized parts management
  • Leads escalation interaction with suppliers, sub-contractors, contract manufacturers, distributors etc. when issues occur that require expert planning/supply chain support
  • Develops and drives Controls and team KPIs which to measure and monitor service levels and lead to improved performance of Material Planning activities
  • Manages these (KPIs) including actions with clear deadlines when team is not meeting targets on a daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis depending on the KPI

Drives the development activity of the Material Planning team to support professional growth and career succession:

  • Uses outstanding leadership abilities to select, develop, inspire and evaluate teams and individuals to achieve and maintain world class performance.
  • Partners with Training and Development team to identify knowledge gaps and create training material and roadmaps to increase employee skillset
  • Conducts regular one on one meetings and performance reviews with direct employees to provide coaching and feedback
  • Identifies personnel resource requirements and makes staffing recommendations to senior management
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and experience

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Purchasing Management or related business or technical degree, followed by a 5-10 years of professional experience working with supply chain processes in manufacturing with at least (2) years in a leadership role, in the position offered or related capacities.APICS certification and/or Six Sigma Certification a plus

To thrive in this job, you’ll need the following skills:

  • Expert knowledge and understanding of MRP, JIT, Kanban Lean Manufacturing and supply versus demand theories .
  • Experience in Manufacturing and Planning modules in SAP environment or similar ERP System (SAP, Oracle, BAAN, etc) preferred
  • Proven track record in building and maintaining strategic relations with suppliers
  • Ability to manage the translation and statistical analysis of data, and effectively make recommendations to influence business practices
  • Advanced knowledge of MS suite of products such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a focus on coaching and mentoring of direct employees

This position is located on-site in San Diego, CA. It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation. A flexible workplace arrangement may be available to employees working in roles conducive to remote work (up to two days a week).
