ASML is extending its strong position in the field of metrology for the semiconductor market. In ASML’s Research department, new concepts and applications are being invented and designed for future markets of lithography and metrology in various fields of semiconductor manufacturing.

Role and responsibilities
The position involves to execute high-level research in the field of applications for metrology in the semiconductor industry. The job includes collecting customer functional requirements of future metrology needs (typically 5-10 years ahead) and transforming them into clear research directions for our algorithms and hardware research teams.
You will work in close collaboration with key experts on the customer side, our development partners, and internal stakeholders (product management, system engineering and development & engineering). You deal with various challenging topics, covering a variety of competences such as semiconductor processing, electronic device architecture, scatterometry, mathematical algorithms, machine learning and optimization & current ASML application products.
You are expected to represent ASML as an expert in the field and to get recognition of this by the customers. Since you will be working intimately with customers and with sensitive data, a high level of integrity is required for securing confidentiality, while at the same time being able to give input to our research teams and steer future research directions.
The job consists of following activities:
- Design, develop, evaluate and test metrology products.
- Perform data analysis with models and algorithms on customer data.
- Create functional design proposals for improving the metrology performance.
- Help implementing and executing the proposal at the customer.
- Participate actively in identifying future product features
- Occasional travel to customer may be needed.
Education and experience
Master degree or PhD in Physics, Mathematics, or Electrical Engineering, with a solid background in some of the following fields: semiconductor process technology, knowledge of the customer fab environment, statistics, data analysis, design for experiment, semiconductor device physics, scatterometry, machine learning and optimization
5 - 7 years of experience in an industrial research & development semiconductor process or metrology department (ideally at an ASML customer).
Experience working with AMSL customers on metrology or control applications products would be an advantage.

Context of the position:
Within ASML, the Computational Methods for Metrology and Sensors (CMMS) group in the Research department is responsible to carry out research in the field of metrology and sensors to enable future ASML products. The holder of this position reports to the CMMS group manager and operates in a project currently focusing on researching and developing a new metrology concept.
This position may require access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
