Are you a master student in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics or similar? Do you have a background in Control or Chaos Theory and an affinity with Physics Modeling? Then this internship could be interesting for you!
Life of ASML’s machines begin after they leave their birthplace in Veldhoven. They are subjected to workload and elements around, their precision is so high that changes in the performance can be observed just after several days of work. The Metrology and Machine Control Development and Engineering department is responsible for controlling the state and performance of ASML’s EUV systems and ultimately to keep their precision over their lifetime.
In more detail, the stability of ASML’s machines, TwinScans, is controlled over time using a set of parameters called the Scanner Baseline Constants. A new set of such parameters is usually calculated every 3 days. Their evolution is a result of changes in the internal state of TwinScan. For example, due to physical degradation of some hardware components or just 'normal' evolution of the system. The magnitude of the calculated correction is relatively small (few nanometers) and they are also affected by the noise and fluctuations.
During your internship, you will work as a part of the Metrology and Machine Control Development and Engineering team. Your tasks include:
- Investigating the possibility to implement different time filters;
- Taking into account the time-series of the 'stability constants';
- Minimizing noise in the control loop and improving its stability;
- Optimizing the resulting performance of the Drift Control loop.
This is a master apprentice or graduation internship, with a duration of 3 to 6 months, for 2 to 4 days a week, starting in April 2022.
To be the perfect match for this internship, you:
- Are a master student in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics or similar;
- Have a background in Chaos Theory or Control Theory;
- Are familiar with MATLAB;
- Have an affinity with Phyics Modeling and/or Control Theory;
- Speak and write English on a sufficient level.
Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.
