Introduction to the job

As an applications engineer in the HMI e-beam division of ASML, you will be responsible for tackling the latest and highest-value process control challenges from our customers – semiconductor chipmakers. You will be equipped with the most cutting-edge scanning electron microscope (SEM) hardware and automated advanced software analysis to design metrology solutions catered to customer problem statements. This is a technical role that interfaces with multiple internal and external sectors, including but not limited to Design and Engineering (D&E), Product Marketing, on-site regional teams, and our customers.

This position may require access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require the Company to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Role and responsibilities

The applications engineer will use ASML’s SEM systems to develop inline metrology recipes in production at customer sites, demonstrate new product capability through in-house demos, conduct failure mode analysis and root cause determination, be responsible for new product and feature introduction at customer sites, and create technically sound documents for both internal and external consumption. This position may require up to 25% travel.

Education and experience

BS in Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical/Industrial Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or Applied Mathematics with 0-3 years of relevant industry experience in photolithography, metrology, and/or SEM technology. MS in the same fields would be preferred.
Understanding of semiconductor devices and processing
Experience in mathematical scripting and data visualization in Mathematica, Python, R, or Matlab
Knowledge of basic probability and statistics is a plus
Experience in design of experiments is a plus
Hands-on and theoretical knowledge on image processing are a plus
Knowledge e-beam interaction with matter and SEM technology are a plus
Ability to work independently after proper training
Ability to maintain and deliver technical output in accordance with given timelines
Ability to identify/isolate bottlenecks and suggest improvement plans
Ability to think systematically under high-pressure situations
