Role and responsibilities

The Customs Manager will report to the Global Head of Customs Affairs and is a member of the Customs Affairs team consisting currently of 6 customs professionals (located in NL in HK, and will be extended in the US and the APAC region). In your role as Customs Manager you are part of a global team (ASML’s Corporate Tax & Customs Team) of direct tax, transfer pricing, indirect tax, wage tax and customs professionals in an international environment and presence in three continents.

The Customs Manager will be primarily be involved on how new legislation and business changes are impacting the internal policies and business flows and writing new policies thereon. Furthermore, you will be strategically looking at the impact of customs valuation and classification on the applicable processes (including stakeholder and project management). More specifically the task and responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for continuously monitoring of the applicable customs laws and regulations in the relevant jurisdictions and assess the relevancy and impact of these changes for ASML;
  • Pro-activelyadvice and support ASML’s (local) management on customs aspects ofbusiness decisions and further increase the value add of the CustomsAffairs team;
  • Create,build and maintain good relations with stakeholders within the other(cross) functional expertise areas like treasury, accounting, complianceand legal to support the business in an integrated way;
  • Togetherwith the other colleagues of the Customs Affairs team, co-develop,maintain, implement and improve policies and guidelines to manage CustomsCompliance, with a focus on customs valuation and classification;
  • Maintainand improve the framework of controls (Tax & Customs controlframework) that ASML uses to manage and mitigate risks;
  • Focus oncustoms compliance and work closely together with colleagues from theregional and global expertise teams and the customsoperations teams who execute the daily import/export & bondedoperations;
  • Participatein improvement and change projects as subject matter expert, representingthe Customs Affairs team;
    Applyfor and maintain customs valuation rulings or agreements with theauthorities;
  • Stimulate and establish good working relationships at different levels with relevant government agencies, special interest groups and professional network groups;
  • RepresentASML towards governmental bodies, including audits.

Education and experience

You have an Academic background (MSc) or similar working experience with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience in Customs Affairs, within a multinational, law firm or a consulting company at Manager or Senior Manager level. You have technical excellence in the field of customs valuation and a good understanding of the interplay between (operational) transfer pricing and customs valuation.

You have experience working in a multidisciplinary environment and in multi-cultural teams.

  • Fluency in English, both oral and written, other languages are an advantage.
