The IT organization of ASML supports information management, infrastructure and key business processes across ASML. Part of the IT organization is the Core IT providing all, mission-critical, shared services and platform including support services.

ASML IT is an agile organization applying constructs of SAFe. This implies that agile teams are organized as Agile Release Trains in which they act as an autonomous system. A consequence of this model, is that agile & DevOps teams require more insights in the applications of which they are end-to-end responsible applying the mantra of you build it, you run it and you own it. This requires a clear vision, strategy, products and platforms to supportthe monitoring and observability needs.

Finally, ASML changed to a hybrid multi-cloud landscape, which poses challenges to have full stack observability with the teams combing on-prem components, hyperscaler IaaS/PaaS components, PaaS and SaaS services.

Job Mission

Monitoring is rapidly evolving as infrastructure and applications become more complex, distributed and interdependent. Cloud platforms, containers and DevOps have resulted in an explosive increase in telemetry and machine data that challenges support organizations as they manage service-level objectives. A single tool will not address all monitoring use cases. Your responsibility includes among other identifying the strategic vendors or open-source projects and building catalog of platform products. A monitoring as a-service platform for the product teams.

In this role you are supporting the ASML’s Core IT strategy theme of IT Ops & Data Excellence by defining and maintaining the architecture for monitoring and observability.

Position in the organization

This role is part of the IT Agile Release Train Infra automation & monitoring. This ART is part of the Core IT portfolio. The role has a matrix reporting line

  • Part of an agile team, reporting directly to IT Infrastructure Group Lead
  • Functionally the role reports to the IT System Architect automation & monitoring

Job Description

As architect monitoring and observability, your job is mainly managing below topics

  • Monitoring, which tells if the system works
    1. The collection of metrics, logs, telemetry from systems
    2. Focus on failures of the system
    3. Includes integrating different monitoring tools
  • Observability, gives the possibility to explain why a system is not working
    1. The insights you gain from the monitoring data
    2. Focus on the behavior of the system and gives an understanding to complex systems
    3. Includes data analytics, science and visualization
  • Remediation, based on data insights, improves the systems reliability
    1. Based on gathered data and behavior, the MTTR and MTBF is reduced by correcting before errors occur.
    2. Includes integrating with toolchains to provide pro-active feedback in pipelines
  • Aligning Service Level Objectives between the operations, development and business teams as success metrics

Education

  • Bachelor or master degree in the area of computer science, technical business administration or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid industry certifications such as Archimate and TOGAF
  • Broad understanding of hosting and infrastructure technologies including:
    • Virtualization: VMWare,
    • Cloud: Working knowledge of Cloud providers such as Azure,
    • Compute: Cisco/NetApp FlexPod and Cisco UCS Solutions
  • Knowledge about database (PAAS) solutions is a pre
  • You may not be an expert in all of them but will be able to impress us with your drive to learn

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/Master degree in IT, Business Management, Computer Science or Electronics
  • 5+ years of relevant IT experience in designing and deploying enterprise level automation tooling
  • Proven experience/expert knowledge in one of the following:
    • Use of agile backlog tooling such as Jira and Jira Align
    • ITOM/ITSM tooling such as ServiceNow
    • AIOps tooling for example Splunk ITSI, Digidate Ignio, Stackstate, Datadog, ServiceNow, Moogsoft etc.
    • Component monitoring tooling such as SCOM, Zabbix, Solarwinds, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, ThousandEyes, Cisco Intersight, etc.
  • Engineering and coding skills
  • Data analytics and science skills
  • Knowledge of and experience with IT architecture methodologies and processes (e.g. TOGAF), agile methodologies (e.g. Kanban, SCRUM, SAFe) and service management methods and processes (ITIL)
  • Experience with outsourcing of IT services
  • Proven track record in road mapping, technical architecture design, solution definition, project management/execution, change/risk management
  • Work experience from large, international companies and have dealt with or worked for global service providers.
  • Knowledge and certification of minimal Archimate 2.1 or willing to certify
