Job Mission:

ASML in Veldhoven is seeking a Senior Metrology Application Engineer in the Development & Engineering (D&E) department. The mission of this job is to technically lead wafer metrology and equipment roadmap challenges that are needed for the demonstration of the advanced performance of ASML’s latest machines.Your job is to provide technical guidance and leadership to the team to deliver practical solutions to enable our product’s roadmap. You will work on projects that are critical to our customers and interface with other development teams, project management, system engineering , manufacturing and marketing and our industry partners .Team work and collaboration are vital to achieve your goals.

Role and responsibilities

Your responsibilities will be, among others:

  • Own expertise in how design choices in the ASML scanner and choices in customer application (such as wafer metrology solutions) influence the metrology roadmap.
  • Assesses technology and project and partnership risks and defines risk mitigation strategies and approaches with the project leadership team.
  • Balance the wafer metrology roadmap with the product roadmaps, representing and securing the long term objectives that meet the KPI’s on our wafer metrology roadmaps.
  • Helps with developing the wafer metrology roadmap, requirements, specifications, architecture, and technology development for the ASML product and ASML Metrology competence roadmap.
  • Interfaces with system engineering and performance integration colleagues to demonstrate solutions developed meeting design specifications by test validation focusing on ASML and associated metrology equipment (CD SEM/ HMI eP5 e-beam metrology YieldStar metrology) , focusing on enabling scanner and application product development.
  • Providing out of the box metrology solutions for the challenging needs of ASML and its end users.
  • Meet shared goals together with the project team, pointing out problems and bottlenecks, working out improvements and initiating their implementation
  • Inform your stakeholders and give presentations to other development teams, customers, system engineering to transfer knowledge

Education and experience

MSc or PhD or degree in Physics, other technical area (must have strong physics preference).


  • Experience with Wafer metrology and or measurement tools is an advantage (SEM/e-beam)
  • 3-5+ years of experience in a technical leadership role regarding wafer metrology and or CDSEM
  • Proven capability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems through written and/or graphical formats.
  • Willingness to travel to USA/Taiwan or customer sites as needed (<10%)

The holder of this position is reporting to the manager of the Wafer Metrology & Reticles group. This group is part of the D&E Cross Product Performance Department in the P&I Cluster.

Within ASML, the sector D&E is responsible for the specification, design, engineering, integration and qualification of the ASML products. In this sector, departments with different competences are responsible for the various modules of the ASML products. Each department consists of discipline and/or function oriented groups where emphasis lies on particular competences or functions in ASML equipment. The D&E Performance & Integration (P&I) cluster has emphasis on ASML system level specification, qualification and integration activities.
