Role and responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with FPGA designers to evaluate requirements and develop architectural concepts and coding structures to optimize performance, verification and maintainability.
  • Decompose functional requirements and define, document and maintain specifications of the FPGA firmware architecture for a device or group of devices in an electronics system.
  • Perform trade-off studies to determine the preferred implementation scenario for new or changed functions. Get agreement with stakeholders.
  • Make effort estimations for FPGA firmware development tasks, aligned with other stakeholders.
  • Support the development of verification strategies for FPGA firmware design, both in simulation and integration/testing, data collection.
  • Interact intensively with board designers and colleagues from the Mechatronics Systems and Software Development departments.
  • Provide architectural support for outsourced firmware development activities at co-developers.
  • Support debug and development of solutions for problems during first system integration.
  • Maintain knowledge and roadmap concerning the firmware competence within ASML.
  • Act as a technical coach for FPGA firmware designers and other team members.

Education and experience

  • BS Engineering with a major in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of relevant design experience.

In-depth knowledge in the following topics:

  • Highly proficient use and understanding of FPGA engineering concepts, principles, and theories.
  • Experience with architecting and implementing embedded processors including NIOS.
  • Expertise using VHDL for implementation and verification of FPGA designs.
  • Basic knowledge of signal algorithms.

Experience and knowledge working on:

  • Digital Logic Development.
  • FPGA Microcontroller Firmware.
  • Motion Control Systems.
