Introduction to the job

We have an exciting opportunity for an Inventory Planner at our location in San Diego, CA. This position will be a warehouse inventory subject matter expert and will work under moderate supervision. The candidate will organize and handle a variety of warehouse and manufacturing inventory projects, quality audits including monitoring aged and obsolete inventory. Champions inventory issues with cross-functional departments including Planning, Purchasing, Manufacturing and Finance. Provides inventory analysis for production planning and volume analysis. Participates in process improvement efforts. Assist various internal departments and planners with expediting warehouse inventory escalations. Assist with plans, schedules and monitors the availability of material in the warehouse. Audits to insure inventory controls are in place for inventory integrity. Coordinates the efficient movement of materials in the warehouse with purchasing, production, engineering, quality, and logistics.

Role and responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly inventory reports and statistics including receiving analysis.
  • Review and report on aging and open transactions in Oracle and SharePoint.
  • Review and drive activities related to management of excess and obsolescence.
  • Create key performance indicators (KPI) reports utilizing ORACLE, Business Objects, Agile, Spotfire and Power BI.
  • Analyze and Report on ERP/MRP Inventory.
  • Analyze and review inventory trends and transactions.
  • Process development and improvement initiatives regarding inventory accuracy.
  • Manage re-usable inventory and packaging.
  • Investigate and analyze issues and prepare recommendations for policy/process action.
  • Assist in developing performance metrics, reporting tools to enhance department efficiency as well as creation of ad-hoc analysis and reporting.
  • Assist with analyzing inventory usage, business needs and review recommendations to optimize inventory.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Production Operations Management, Inventory Management or Supply Chain Management preferred or five years’ work equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years related experience in warehousing, logistics, manufacturing or distribution.
  • Warehousing, distribution or logistics experience preferred.
  • Oracle, Business Objects, Power BI and SharePoint experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
  • Strong problem solving skills and self-starter.
  • Process improvement experience plus.
  • Project management experience a plus.
  • Experience working in an Continuous Improvement environment a plus.

  • Requires understanding of Lean principles, Lean experience a plus.
  • Can apply basic principles, techniques, and methods in managing inventory.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as variances, ratios, percentages.
  • Requires ability to evaluate existing processes and work instructions.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced working environment.
  • Knowledge of inventory management, cycle counting, quality audits, inbound receiving and outbound order filling.
  • Ability to work independently on job functions and departmental tasks
  • Can observe and respond to people and situations and interact with others encountered in the course of work.
  • Can learn and apply new information or skills.
  • Must be able to read and interpret data, information and documents.

Other information

  • This position is located off-site 3PL warehouse in San Diego, County. It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further teamwork, collaboration and innovation.
  • A flexible workplace arrangement may be available to employees working in roles conducive to remote work (up to two days a week).
  • Must be willing to work in a warehouse environment, sometimes operating material handling equipment and wearing proper PPE as needed for safety.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Must be willing to spend the majority of time (greater than 90% less break time) on the warehouse floor, walking, standing and sitting.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
