Introduction to the job

Firmware team is responsible for FPGA & embedded software development on e-beam inspection products of ASML. As a member of firmware team, you will play a central role in implementing SEM image processing, control, sampling functions utilizing FPGA. In this role, you will collaborate with hardware engineer to accomplished board level FPGA debug and troubleshooting to ensure FPGA function meet system specifications and requirements.We are looking for engineers with strong technical background in RTL design and FPGA design.

This position may require access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require the Company to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Role and responsibilities

As an Electrical Engineer Intern (Digital) at ASML HMI San Jose, you will tackle new and exciting technical challenges each day as you develop a FPGA system with mixed signal based on system specifications and requirements.You will tap into your technical acumen as you collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues including but not limited to:

  • Develop high speed communication modules and design communication protocols;
  • Write SDC file to constrain FPGA project and fix FPGA project timing issues;
  • Work with hardware design engineers to debug and test electronic modules, provide helpful suggestion for hardware design engineers.

Education and experience

  • BSEE (Junior or Senior level), MSEE or related field of engineering.
  • Strong Verilog or VHDL coding skills
  • Experienced on python coding.
  • Experienced on FPGA board level design with Intel Quartus including RTL design, module level simulation, timing constrain, STA timing analysis etc.
  • Experienced on bus protocol (Avalon streaming, Avalon Memory Mapped etc.) and industry interface (SPI, UART, Ethernet etc.) design.
  • Experienced on DDR3 or DDR4 memory control design and High-speed SerDes interface control design.
  • Solid digital hardware knowledge and circuit schematic read capability. Analog hardware knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience on Linux system and C coding is a plus.
  • Strong trouble shooting skills and communication skills.
