Introduction

Background information

In order to meet the tighter requirements on imaging performance, it is of great importance to always image the patterns in the available depth of focus. One prerequisite of tight focus control is the knowledge of the wafer topography. For that purpose a dedicated sensor is present in the machine, which measures a height map of the wafer with an accuracy of a few nanometers.

The main purpose of this wafer map is to determine the wafer stage trajectories during the exposure of the wafer in order to keep the wafer in best focus all the time. A verification test has been designed for checking the accuracy of the measured wafer map and troubleshooting potential issues.

Your assignment

While we currently have a verification test, implemented in Python with some backend code in C++, there are some improvements/extensions that could be made to make the tool more useful to design engineers, whether carrying out experiments on prototypes systems or debugging / diagnosing issues.

The aim of this internship will be to implement some of these features, discussing with domain experts to ensure the design, operation and testing of these features is in line with expectations, and delivering these extensions to our software archive so that they are available on all Twinscan platforms.

Examples of the additional functionality include:

  • Histograms of calculated metrics (reproducibility/accuracy) across the wafer area;
  • Update of graphical user interface to include additional options, such as wafer rotation;
  • Validation of the options selected by the user, preventing inconsistent settings.

Your profile

To be the perfect match for the internship, you:

  • are a student in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Physical Sciences;
  • have knowledge in Python, C++ and behavioural testing;
  • are proactive and have great communication skills in English, both written and verbally.

This is a bachelor apprentice internship, with a minimum duration of 6 months, 4 days per week, starting in January (flexible).

Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.

This position requires access to U.S. controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such U.S. controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with applicants who are immediately eligible to access U.S. controlled technology.
