Role and responsibilities

The Metrology Engineer will be responsible for the development of one or more Metrology groups Interferometers, Spectrophotometers, Profilometers, CMM’s that measure and control the optical manufacturing processes. These processes will measure components and sub-assemblies that go into our world class extreme ultraviolet (EUV) source for next generation photolithography tools. These metrology systems use a variety of optical, electronical and dimensional measurement techniques to accomplish their function. The engineer will be responsible for creating specifications for the metrology performance, defining architectures that meet those specifications and analyzing the solutions to predict performance. Engineering tasks will include design, development, testing, troubleshooting. In addition, the engineer will provide technical leadership to the project, our suppliers, as well as supporting our customers’ technical needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To support all production metrology systems for incoming, in process and final measurements and inspections.
  • Responsible for creating visual based setup and operation work instructions and provides training, testing and competency evaluation to qualify a technician for the safe setup and operation of the metrology tools.
  • Implements metrology control plans that define the methods used to insure accurate and repeatable measurement results.
  • Develops a full metrology characterization to insure the tools meets the manufactures specifications and ASML’s internal requirements.
  • Applies broad knowledge in optics, sensors, electronics, algorithms, software, and data analysis tools to drive metrology system improvements.
  • Advanced knowledge of Metrology techniques GR&R, MSA, Ppk, Cpk, SPC and Measurement Uncertainty used to monitor, control and improve metrology tools.
  • Works with a cross-functional teams to support the development, manufacturing, and integration of innovative core technologies into engineering solutions.
  • Communicates status reports and issues across various functional disciplines.
  • Documents work results with system requirements, design specifications, procedures, and training materials.
  • Is forward looking for emerging Metrology tools, techniques and methods to insure Metrology is on the leading edge of performance that is technically possible.
  • Work closely with the Metrology suppliers to keep up to date any or all software, hardware and firmware is current and installed.
  • Solid understanding of manufactures specified capability and that the right tool is being used for the task within manufacturing specifications.
  • Generate Metrology tools SPC standards measurements results weekly and address any deviations in control.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Education and experience

  • BS or MS in Optics, Physics, Imaging Science, Photonics or Engineering
  • Experience with semiconductor capital equipment industry is a plus.
  • Certified in Lean, Six Sigma, ISO 17025, Measurement Uncertainty is a plus.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization using advanced data analysis tools (e.g. MATLAB, Python).
  • Experience with Metrology supplier engagement is required.
  • Able to convert an innovative idea into an engineering and practical solution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of clearly explaining technical issues and ideas to peers of other disciplines as well as management and customers.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • You must be able to legally work in the U.S for sponsorship.

  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Can work under deadlines.
  • The environment generally is moderate in temperature with moderate to high noise level.
  • Must be willing to work a compressed work week schedule – twelve-hour long shift and rotating from three to four days a week.
