The mission of the Technical Writer is to create and update documentation ranging from release notes to user guides for a highly sophisticated engineer and developer audience in the semiconductor industry. This position is located on-site in San Diego, CA. It requires onsite presence (3-5 days a week) to attend in-person work-related events, work in the factory cleanroom environment, attend trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation.

Role and responsibilities

  • Writes, edits, and publishes high-quality single-source product documentation using Microsoft Word and Adobe FrameMaker.
  • Plans, develops, organizes, writes and edits operational procedures and service documentation.
  • Converts documentation format (FrameMaker to MS Word, MS Word to XML).
  • Coordinates internal reviews of the product documentation.
  • Publishes documentation in PDF using Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Collaborates with other writers and the Manufacturing Engineering team to develop and maintain product documentation.
  • Can participate in control builds in the cleanroom with the Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Analyzes documents to maintain continuity of style of content.
  • Leads technical documentation projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or science/engineering degree with at least 1 year of relevant experience and some technical training in computer software.
  • At least 1 year of relevant, work related experience in an international, highly technical environment.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, strong preference for native English.
  • Ability to develop and maintain large documents.
  • Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems through written and/or graphical formats.
  • Ability to add and update index entries.
  • Experience working with subject matter experts (SMEs), including editing content created by English as a Second Language (ESL) speakers.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word.
  • Experience creating and editing graphics using Microsoft PowerPoint and a screenshot utility, such as TechSmith SnagIt.
  • Must be knowledgeable of and have user experience with Configuration Management Systems.
  • Must possess an understanding of documentation standards.
  • Additional preferred qualifications:
  • Experience using source control tools, wikis, and bug tracking systems (JIRA preferred).

Other information

The California base annual salary / hourly range for this role is currently $55K - $85K. Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.   • Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Occasionally required to move around the campus.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • May require travel (domestic and/or international) dependent on business needs – no more than 10%.
