Introduction to the job
Lead a team of engineers and help solve complex challenges in the semiconductor industry. As a mechatronics architect you define the mechatronics architecture on system level or the architecture of a mechatronics module, including interfaces to other modules.
Role and responsibilities
You’ll be responsible for the design of the mechatronics architecture or function of a mechatronic module. You’ll work in multidisciplinary project teams, together with the mechanical, electrical, and software departments.As mechatronics architect you balance performance, costs, manufacturability and serviceability. You specify, design, make the technical budget analysis, select critical components, and you are involved in integration, test planning, test execution, and trouble shooting.
As Mechatronics architect you will:
- Define the architecture for new modules
- Define the module- or function- roadmap
- Lead, coach and develop a team of design engineers
- Provide specifications to the mono-disciplinary departments
- Model and simulate the behavior of the(sub-)systems
Education and experience
As mechatronics architect you’ll need:
- Master’s degree or a PhD in mechatronics, mechanical- or electrical engineering or in technical physics
- At least 10 years of experience in a similar role in a high tech industry
- Experience with design and realization of mechatronics systems
- Experience in multidisciplinary project work involving mechatronics, optics, electronics and software

Within ASML the sector Development & Engineering is responsible for the specification and the design of the ASML products. The department Mechatronics Systems Development within Bottom (BM) cluster is responsible for specification, design, integration and qualification of the mechatronics sub-systems and components which are fitted into ASML end products. The main focus is on nanometer-accuracy positioning of high speed components for transporting/positioning of wafers and reticles and adjustments of optical elements. Control engineering, dynamics, actuator design, position measurement systems are part of this department’s main competences.
