Introduction – Job Mission

As a Controls Engineer at Cymer Light Source, you will be responsible for developing and improving critical controllers and other algorithms for the Deep Ultraviolet (DUV) lasers used in the manufacture of microchips, to enhance performance, increase reliability, and increase automation (lower cost).

Job Description

The project is to improve the DUV laser energy control algorithm. This current algorithm is complex and high performance, but increasing customer demands and Cymer’s dedication to continuous improvement require that the controller be updated to handle more corner cases and add higher performance features. In particular, a performance-based calibration may improve tool availability over scheduled calibration. The intern will learn the current controller and related technologies, including known use cases and pathologies, conduct targeted experiments to gather, analyze, and process data, explore solution options, design new controller elements, simulate and test, document the work, and make recommendations.

Education and Experience

·Candidate must be studying for a Master’s or Ph.D. in the fields of Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering or related fields.

  • Linear systems, feedback control, discrete-time control, signal processing, filtering and estimation, system identification, and non-linear systems postgraduate courses and experience will be highly regarded.
  • Good Matlab skills and experience.
  • Experience designing practical discrete-time feedback control systems of significant complexity.
  • Ability to design and analyze feedback control and estimation systems using classical, modern or nonlinear techniques and theories.
  • Ability to quickly process and analyze large data sets from variable sources, including data translation, statistical analysis, and effective reporting through written and/or graphical formats.
  • Some background in data science is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of C/C++ desirable.
