Introduction

Are you a student in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry? Do you have an affinity for doing research and are looking for an interesting graduation project? Then this internship could be interesting for you!

Background Information

Working as a Manufacturing and Equipment Engineer, your mission is to optimize the reliability, availability, serviceability, and cycle time of precision manufacturing equipment as it moves from the early development phase to operations at international customer sites. You make sure that all the work instructions, diagnostics, tools, trainings and spare parts are available for the manufacturing and customer-support operational sectors.

Your Assignment

The vacuum chamber of an EUV lithography machine needs to be very clean. When the cleanliness specs are not met, the system cannot perform well. The optics in our system will degrade too fast for instance.

To make sure our system is at the correct molecular cleanliness grade we perform an OUTGASSING measurement. During this measurement the gas composition that is evacuated from the vacuum chamber is monitored with an RGA for a certain amount of time. At the end of this period the gas cleanliness needs to be below a certain threshold.

Although we have been doing these measurements at ASML on system level and at our suppliers on part level for quite some time, a good understanding on how we can best deal with this type of measurement is lacking and we are looking for ways to improve.
For this assignment the student will need to:

  • Understand the principles of outgassing and molecular cleanliness;
  • Gather and analyze data from measurements done on previous systems and at suppliers;
  • Come with recommendations on improving the outgassing measurement itself;
  • Optimize the location in the sequence and find opportunities to do parallel work;
  • Set up a good way to store the data and link it to the procedure (Data collection)

Your Profile

To be the perfect match for this internship you:

  • Are studying Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field;
  • Have experience with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;
  • Are able to do independent research;
  • Have good communication, and analytical skills.

This is a Bachelor or Master graduation internship starting as soon as possible, lasting 6 months for 4-5 days per week.

Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.
