Introduction

Are you a Master student in the direction of Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics or a related discipline? Are you creative, curious and able to work independently? Are you looking to put your Computational Fluid Dynamics knowledge to use? Then this internship might be interesting for you!

Background information

The performance of high-precision mechatronics systems, such as ASML’s lithography machines, can be affected by flow-induced vibrations (FIV) caused by the flow of cooling water through mechanisms such as turbulence. The pressure fluctuations generated can travel through water circuits as acoustic pressure waves leading to disturbance forces on the machine structure. The goal of the project is to investigate how large eddy simulations can predict such pressure fluctuations in comparison against experimental measurements.

Your assignment

For this assignment you will work with the Flow-induced Vibrations (FIV), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and High Performance Computing (HPC) Competence Teams to perform large eddy simulations (LES) for a given FIV problem, where experimental data is available for comparison. In addition, scalability tests are to be performed for the LES simulations on CPU vs GPU structures to assess simulation time.

Your profile

To be a perfect match for this internship, you:

  • Are a Master student in the direction of Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics or a related discipline;

  • Have experience with CFD and turbulence, large eddy simulation (LES) knowledge is a plus;

  • Are creative, curious, goal oriented and capable of working independently;

  • You have good communication skills in English (both verbal and written).

This is a Master apprentice internship lasting 4 to 6 months, 5 days per week with a start date as soon as possible. Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a university for the entire duration of the internship.

This position requires access to U.S. controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such U.S. controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with applicants who are immediately eligible to access U.S. controlled technology.

We make machines that make chips – the hearts of the devices that keep us informed, entertained and safe; that improve our quality of life and help to tackle the world’s toughest problems.

We build some of the most amazing machines that you will ever see, and the applications to run them. Never satisfied, we measure our performance in units that begin with pico or nano.

We believe we can always do better. We believe the winning idea can come from anyone. We love what we do – not because it’s easy, but because it’s hard. At ASML we are always pushing technology further.

Students: Getting ready for the real-world
Teamwork is key within ASML. Our R&D team is more than 5,500 people strong and worldwide we form one big team with over 25,000 employees. These colleagues have 123 different nationalities and work at our major sites on three continents.

Dozens of diverse, interdisciplinary teams work in parallel to meet a challenging development schedule. In this inspiring environment, your colleagues may be sitting next door, or they could be thousands of kilometers away in a different country, or even working for a different company.

An internship at ASML is your opportunity to get to know this world and get a feel for that excites you most. Use your education, gain real-life working experience and explore the world of high-tech – all at the same time.
How will you be part of progress?
