Physics | Optics Graduation Internship: Fiber Optics Beam Delivery for EUV optics

Introduction

Are you a master student in Physics, Optics or Photonics? Do you have fiber optic knowledge? Then this internship could be interesting for you!

Background information

To improve the imaging performance of ASML scanners, thermal conditioning of the projection optical surfaces is crucial. To ensure thermal condition, a thermal heat load is applied on the mirror surfaces from a high-power laser source deployed through an optical fiber train.

Your assignment

As a trainee working within the EUV projection and light sources team, you will push the boundaries of Optical Fiber train design to maximize power transmission, ensuring manufacturability and long-term reliability.

The assignment is divided following stages:   

• Familiarize with fiber optics;

• Investigate methods to ensure reliability of beam delivery systems;

• Implement and test the alternative method(s) based on simulation;

Your profile

To be the perfect match for this internship you:

• Are a master student in Physics, Optics, Photonics or any related field;

• Have hands on optical lab experience, preferably fiber optics knowledge;

• Have experience with data analysis, like Matlab, Python, Labview, etc;

• Have a pro-active approach in problem solving;

This internship is preferably conducted as a 9-month graduation thesis starting as soon as possible.

Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a university for the entire duration of the internship.

This position requires access to U.S. controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such U.S. controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with applicants who are immediately eligible to access U.S. controlled technology.
