Introduction

You will be working in a small communications team that is dedicated to supporting the ASML R&D organization, which has over 14,500 employees spread over multiple locations worldwide. Our main goal: increasing the communications power of the R&D organization.

A lot of our communications is by engineers, for engineers. For example: the annual ASML Technology Conference, which is the largest engineering conference in the world. Another deliverable that we are very proud of is our magazine ‘Technology Matters’. As Business Partner you will also advise our senior leaders in the R&D organization to shape their message and will define communication strategies for complex projects.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Role & responsibilities

As a Senior Business Partner (internal) Communications R&D, no week will ever be the same.
You’ll be working on challenges (“how can I communicate about this?”) rather than tactics (“please do me a video). Therefore, we are looking for somebody with a strategic mindset, who can also drive execution of a plan (sometimes with support of agencies and other teams).

Most of your work will be focused on internal communications. Some examples;

  • You will be working with the leaders in the R&D organization with their communication challenges. This is very diverse. Sometimes you’ll support a Vice President with an organization challenge, sometimes you’ll team up with our project leaders to help them with the rollout of a new way of working.

  • You will drive and initiate projects to increase customer knowledge in the R&D organization.

  • You will increase awareness about our technological roadmap milestones and support recognition of the teams.

  • Together with the R&D strategy team, you will support strategy cascading in the R&D organization.

  • You will encourage the R&D organization to share their best practices and milestones.

  • Together with the other members of the R&D communications team, you will define and execute the long-term R&D communications strategy. Together we drive audience centric communications using measurements, dashboards, and our R&D focus group.

  • You may be involved in supporting our network ‘Female leaders in technology’, ESG communications for R&D or supporting our Technology Conference. These tasks will be agreed within the R&D communications team, according to the interests, skills, and experiences of the team as a whole. In this way you’ll be working on the portfolio that suits you best.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor or Master degree in communications, marketing, business management or other relevant study

  • >12 years’ experience in (internal) communications

  • In previous roles:

    • You have experience of translating business goals into communications goals, creating strategic, outcome-focused and measurable communication plans.

    • You have advised your stakeholders on the best communication approach and channels, and you know how to tell stories that inspire and engage.

    • You have advised, coached and trained stakeholders in their communication activities.

    • You have worked in a technology / scientific environment.

Skills

To thrive in this job, ideally, you’ll have the following skills:

  • Able to structure complex business challenges to a realistic communications strategy. You can build a plan from scratch, and you can take people along in your thinking.

  • Giraffe mentality: overseeing the high-level picture, with 2 feet on the ground for execution power.

  • Influencing without formal authority, sense for tactical and political relations on both strategic and operational level.

  • As we are an international company, a high-level competency in English is a must. Dutch is not needed.

  • You should have a natural curiosity for technology as you’ll need to be able to understand the world of our engineers. Don’t worry: we don’t expect a full understanding of ASML’s technology, but you should be willing to learn the basics, so you can relate communication challenges to the bigger picture.

  • You also have experience in (organizing) text writing, script writing for videos, briefings for campaigns, briefings for photoshoots, organizing workshops. You can work with the following tools: SharePoint including intranet management, Microsoft Office, Teams, mass mailing program, internal TV screen messaging.

Context

In this role, you will work in the R&D (internal) communications team, which is part of the global internal communications team. We fall under global communications, a group of >100 communication specialists with a great mix of communication expertise.
