Introduction to the job
This position will work with Program Managers and Product Development Engineers to transfer electrical, mechanical, optical assemblies and systems into the production environment. This individual’s goal will be to lead the transition of new products from the engineering lab to the manufacturing floor while meeting aggressive timelines to complete deliverables defined by our PGP process. This individual must be a self-driven, team player, and have a high degree of discipline to process control, with the ability to multi-task with strong documentation and communication skills.
Internally recognized specialist on complex technical and/or business matters. Will champion significant projects, programs and business initiatives. Having wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
Role and responsibilities
Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises independent judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
Generally free to determine work priorities based on PGP Process and general direction from managers and senior peers. Proactively identifies potential issues and brings potential solutions to managers. May provide a leadership role for the work group through advanced knowledge in his/her area of specialization.
Develop and document manufacturing process (assembly and test) for new optical, mechanical and electrical assemblies (system and sub system level).
Leads efforts to complete NPI deliverables in a timely manner.
Incorporate DfX, 5S and lean manufacturing methodologies in new processes.
Responsible to effectively communicate and identify issues during engineering builds and implement or drive corrective actions to improve product yield and quality.
Diagnose and debug manufacturing issues found during development with corrective action implementation in a timely manner.
Identify capital equipment needed for manufacturing including cost and capacity assessments
Develop process flow maps, pFMEA, and control plans. Take ownership in lowering high RPNs.
Assist in or train production personnel effectively.
Creates and oversees the execution of product, process, equipment and test qualification plans.
Prepares and presents results along with pass/fail recommendation.
Prepare and launch process related COs for new products. Actively work with cross functional teams (program managers, planners, buyers and document control) to implement the changes, within an aggressive time frame.
Coordinates and observes special and controlled builds to validate process effectiveness.
Develops initial MES forms and begins tracking and reporting key process indicators to ensure that modules/systems are capable of meeting design specifications and intent with adequate margin.
Provide support to Production and continuously make efforts to improve the current process for cost efficiency and time reduction within manufacturing.
Support multiple NPI projects to achieve department and company performance goals. Develops / refines business processes.
Facilitates completion of prototype and pilot production units to meet schedule requirements.
Evaluates and analyzes data acquired during test using programs such as MS Excel, MS Access, JMP, and Lab View.
Makes recommendations for process or design modifications based on analysis.
Provides guidance to other team members.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and experience
BS or higher degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Systems, Optical, Electrical, Mechanical or related Engineering field.
Minimum 10 years of experience with assembly and testing of electrical, mechanical and optical assemblies and systemsAdvanced experience using one or more of the following software packages: Excel, MS Access, LabView, JMP, MS Project, Oracle DMR, and Agile. Labview, Visual Basic and Java programming knowledge are desired but not required.
Experienced in the use of photonics test equipment, both optical (power meters, spectrometers interferometers, etc.) and electrical (oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, etc)
Hands-on experience in electrical, mechanical, optical and systems assembly and test
Experience in product transition into a volume manufacturing environment.
Statistical/6-Sigma experience preferred.

The California base annual salary / hourly range for this role is currently $91,875.00 - $140,875.00. Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data.
