Introduction
Are you studying Chemistry or Material Science? Do you like doing experimental work in the lab? Then this internship could be interesting for you!
Background information
ASML mission is, together with our partners, to provide leading patterning solutions that drive the advancement of microchips. This means enabling groundbreaking technology to produce smaller chips with better resolution that our customers can produce on the highest speed.
The Plasma Physics group is part of the Research department of ASML. This group identifies and fills in technological gaps in the future roadmap of lithography and the lithography market. Our focus is on the interaction of light (13.5 nm) with the gaseous background in our tools and advanced materials exposed to that environment. We work in small teams and deliver solutions that can be transferred to Development and Engineering. We work together with external research institutes and universities. The broad range of complex problems, the depth of understanding and the room to create new solutions makes the work in our group fascinating.
Your assignment
Your main focus will be to investigate the behavior of thin films in extreme conditions and to investigate material issues/challenges using appropriate material diagnostic tools. This includes experimental work in ASML advanced offline test set-ups, characterizing thin films, analyzing results and presenting findings, and writing a report.
Your profile
To be the perfect match for this internship you:
- Have a background in (physical) Chemistry, Material- or Nano Science, or Plasma Physics;
- Are able to work independently;
- Have good communication skills;
This is a Bachelor or Master internship, suitable for as both an apprentice internship and graduation project. The internship will last 6 or more months, for 5 days per week, starting January or February 2024.

We build some of the most amazing machines that you will ever see, and the applications to run them. Never satisfied, we measure our performance in units that begin with pico or nano.
We believe we can always do better. We believe the winning idea can come from anyone. We love what we do – not because it’s easy, but because it’s hard. At ASML we are always pushing technology further.
Students: Getting ready for the real-world
Teamwork is key within ASML. Our R&D team is more than 5,500 people strong and worldwide we form one big team with over 25,000 employees. These colleagues have 123 different nationalities and work at our major sites on three continents.
