Job Mission

The role of the Test Software Engineer Intern is to create a test system that simulates one of the modules in the laser. This test system will be comprised of electrical interfaces (cables, adapters, etc.), signal generators and computers. A software application will be developed using the LabVIEW development system

This position may require access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require the Company to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Job Description

  • Collect requirements for the test system from the stakeholders
  • Creates design documentation for both Hardware and Software implementations. Design artifacts may include interconnection diagrams, schematics software flow diagrams, block diagrams.
  • Selects COTS hardware components required for the test system.
  • Builds hardware components as needed for the test system (cables, adapters)
  • Writes LabVIEW code to develop an application that simulates the laser module.
  • Performs Hardware / Software integration test.
  • Releases all the documentation, source code, and binaries to the corresponding repository.

Education and Experience

  • Must be pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or other related Science fields.
  • Experience / education in LabVIEW programming.
  • Experience / education in GUI (Graphical User Interface) development.
  • Experience / education in communication interfaces: Serial (RS232, RS422, SPI), Network (TCP/IP, UDP), CAN bus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to write technical and status reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated high level of accountability, responsibility, and technical competence.
  • Software development skills (either one of the following: Python, C, C#, Matlab).
  • Knowledge of electrical interfaces: cables, adapters, interface boards.
  • Familiar with lab equipment: oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, logic analyzers.
  • Familiar with test computers and data acquisition modules.

  • This position is located on-site in San Diego, CA.  It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation.

The current base annual salary range for this role is currently $17.00  -  $53.00. Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
