Introduction to the job

Are you passionate about turning complex electronic designs into manufacturable, high‑quality PCB layouts? Do you enjoy working at the intersection of electrical design, mechanics and supplier manufacturing? Do you have an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics (or similar) and solid experience with PCB layout tooling such as Mentor Graphics Xpedition? We might be looking for you!

As a PCB Layout Engineer, you will be a key technical contributor in the Development & Engineering (D&E) organization in Veldhoven. You take responsibility for translating schematic intent and system requirements into robust PCB layouts, while ensuring Design for Manufacturing/Assembly/Test and first‑time‑right quality.

You will support designers and collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical and SI/EMC specialists and our (international) suppliers to deliver excellent quality printed circuit boards and assemblies to ASML.

Role and responsibilities

As a PCB Layout Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Creating PCB layouts from schematics.
  • Defining board technology and stack‑up together with electrical, mechanical, SI/PI and thermal specialists.
  • Setting up and maintaining constraint‑driven design (e.g., controlled impedance, length matching, differential pairs, via strategy, spacing/creepage) in line with IPC and ASML rules.
  • Applying best practices for EMC/noise/grounding and contributing to design reviews.
  • Generating manufacturing and assembly documentation (PCB TPD) and supporting supplier questions during fabrication and assembly.
  • Supporting and reviewing outsourced PCB layout work; sharing knowledge and coaching colleagues where needed.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of layout methodologies, libraries and ways of working.

Education and Experience

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics or similar.

  • 5+ years of PCB layout experience, preferably on complex HDI and/or mixed‑signal designs.
  • Experience with constraint‑driven layout for high‑speed buses (e.g., DDR, PCIe) and controlled impedance concepts.
  • Working knowledge of IPC standards (e.g., IPC‑2221) and DFM/DFA/DFT principles.
  • Experience with Mentor Graphics Xpedition (or an equivalent professional PCB CAD tool).

Skills

  • Highly motivated team player with good social and communication skills.
  • Quality and efficiency focus; attention to detail.
  • Proactive, takes ownership and drives issues to closure.
  • Organizes work effectively and logically; able to set priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Team player who can also work independently and coach others when needed.

The PCB Layout Engineer will be part of the Means and Methods Services group within the EDEV Applications Means & Methods (AMM) department in Veldhoven. You will report to the group manager and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams across Development & Engineering (D&E).

Other Information

Within D&E, the department Electronic Development (EDEV) is responsible for the definition, realization, qualification, and integration of electronic functions and modules within these products. The Means and Methods Services group provides 2nd line developer support for tools and ways of working and offers specialist design services to projects for efficient execution of key activities.

  • This position is based on-site at ASML headquarters in Veldhoven.
  • Depending on the role and business needs, a hybrid working arrangement may be discussed.
  • For this role it is important that you are eligible to work in the Netherlands.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.).
