Van Gogh Brabant & Van Gogh Museum

Inspired by light, connected by Brabant

ASML and Van Gogh Museum extend innovative partnership

Vincent Van Gogh is one of the world’s most well-known and inspiring artists from the Netherlands with roots in Brabant. ASML shares Vincent’s innovative attitude and fascination with light, and we feel, just like him, closely connected with Brabant. That’s why we’re proud to extend our long-time partnership with the Van Gogh Museum until the end of 2028. We’re using our joint expertise to inspire people with the world’s largest Van Gogh art collection and to safeguard his masterpieces for future generations.

Together, we’re taking the next steps to preserve this invaluable cultural heritage and uncover which techniques and materials Van Gogh used. The innovative technologies we’re developing as part of the partnership will be used in a study of Vincent van Gogh’s Dutch period, most of which was in Brabant, where he started his innovative search for light and color. In the coming years, our engineers will be working closely with the museum to establish the brand-new ASML Science Centre, a research center in the museum that will be visible to visitors.

Emilie Gordenker, director of the Van Gogh Museum and Christophe Fouquet, CEO of ASML.

To celebrate 50 years of the Van Gogh Museum we asked visitors how Vincent’s work moves them.
We invite you to watch the video and learn more about our work together on these pages.

Partners in Science

“Paintings fade like flowers.” – Vincent van Gogh, April 1889

This quote proves true, as many of his paintings and drawings have changed significantly over time due to color degradation. As part of the partnership, a team of ASML engineers work with the Van Gogh Museum’s restoration and conservation studio to support research into the conservation of Van Gogh’s paintings.

Together we investigate how external factors, including light, affect the paint Van Gogh used. By using this knowledge to optimize display conditions and minimize further degradation of the collection, we ensure it can be admired by future generations.

Charity

Through our partnership with the Van Gogh Museum, we aim to open up cultural initiatives to people that, due to their circumstances, they wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to enjoy. By making Vincent van Gogh’s art accessible to everyone, we hope it will inspire and bring color, comfort, community and creativity to their lives.
