Introduction

ASML is the world’s leading manufacturer of semiconductor lithography machines, powering the next generation of electronic devices. Metrology plays a critical role in this process by enabling precise measurement and characterization of components during chip production. Our advanced metrology solutions combine high-precision sensors with complex algorithms to achieve sub-nanometer accuracy. This internship focuses on improving diagnostic capabilities within our metrology systems to ensure machine integrity and performance.

Your assignment

Machine and Material Damage Control (MMDC) protects ASML systems from harmful interactions, such as collisions or wafer damage. When MMDC events occur, hardware deformation can impact on-product performance, often detected too late. To address this, ASML developed ENMJET, an automated inline diagnostic action that verifies hardware integrity after such events.

Currently, ENMJET data is analyzed using an internal MATLAB script. Your challenge is to implement ENMJET diagnostics in Python and integrate it into our Metrology Analysis Tool (MANA), making it accessible for customer support and internal teams.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Understanding MMDC and ENMJET mechanisms and their impact on machine performance.

  • Explore diagnostic data requirements and existing MATLAB workflows.

  • Study Python-based implementations within MANA and design the new tooling.

  • Implement ENMJET diagnostics in Python and ensure seamless integration with MANA.

  • Investigate modern deployment practices such as containerization and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Contribute to improving the development lifecycle for diagnostic tools.

This is a final-year bachelor or master internship or thesis project for minimum 5 months, minimum 3 days per week (at least 2 days on-site). The start date of this internship is February/March 2026.

Your profile

To be suitable for the internship, you:

  • Are enrolled in a final-year bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, physics, engineering, or a related field.

  • Have strong proficiency in Python and experience with MATLAB.

  • Are familiar with Git and GitHub; knowledge of GitHub Actions is a plus.

  • Show interest or experience in containerization (e.g., Docker) and modern deployment practices.

  • Are analytical, proactive, and eager to learn, with strong communication skills in English.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
