Introduction
The EUV light source is essential to ASML's leading edge lithography systems. The department Machine Conditioning EUV Source is charged with specifying, analyzing, designing and testing fluid and thermal sub-systems and control solutions. Within the department, the group Source Infrastructure is concerned with specifying, designing and qualifying gas and cooling water supply systems.
Your assignment
In EUV Source cooling systems, oxygen free cooling water is used to prevent corrosion of the optics. To guarantee low presence of oxygen, the permeability of the circuit needs to be controlled. Several materials are used, including flexible stainless-steel tubing, PTFE, PUR etc. From a cost of goods perspective, it is preferable to use PUR, however the oxygen permeability of this material is not well studied. The goal of this internship is to characterize the oxygen permeability of PUR, both analytically and experimentally, in order to support the cost savings initiative. Steps will be:
1) Investigate (involving suppliers and ASML corrosion competence) what is already preset in literature. (Literature study)
2) Create numerical models to simulate the behavior of existing designs
3) Create test setup to validate the numerical simulations
4) Compare results with experimental evidence and match the models
5) Properly document the findings
This is a Master graduation internship for 6 months. The start date is flexible (latest starting date Sept '25).
Education and experience
To be a perfect fit for this assignment, you:
- Are a Master student in Mechanical, Chemical, Applied Physics or Aerospace engineering, looking for a graduation project.
- Have affinity with combination of modeling and experimental work.
- Are familiar with basics of fluid dynamics, basic understanding of molecular transport. Some experience in CFD or Multiphysics tooling (e.g. Comsol / Ansys / STAR-CCM+).
- Have great communication skills in English, both written and verbally.
- Are independent and team oriented.
Please add your complete CV and motivation letter to your application for this position.
We cannot process your application without the above-mentioned documents.
Other requirements you need to meet:
- You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
- You need to be located in the Netherlands to be able to perform your internship. In case you ‘re currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
- If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
