Introduction to the job

Unlocking the potential of people and society by pushing technology to new limits is what ASML stands for. To secure this journey, our cryptography experts play a crucial role in protecting the integrity, confidentiality, and trustworthiness of the data that fuels our business. As a Junior Cryptography Security Specialist, you will support the protection of ASML’s digital ecosystem by helping implement and strengthen foundational cryptographic capabilities.

This role is ideal for early career security professionals with a strong interest in cryptography, eager to grow under the guidance of medior and senior experts in one of the world’s most complex technological environments. You will develop hands-on skills, contribute to secure-by-design principles, and learn how cryptography underpins secure operations across IT, products, services, and manufacturing

Role and Responsibilities

Being a Junior Cryptography Security Specialist, you will contribute to ASML’s enterprise cryptographic security by supporting experts across the organization. You will:

  • Support Cryptographic Policy & Standards Development
Assist in maintaining ASML’s cryptographic policies, standards, and baselines related to encryption, key management, and secure communications.
Help ensure alignment with regulatory and industry frameworks (e.g., NIST, GDPR, CRA, NIS2) under guidance of senior colleagues.
  • Contribute to Secure-by-Design principles
Support IT, OT, product, and engineering teams with applying cryptographic best practices.
Participate in discussions around embedding cryptographic features into hardware and software designs.
  • Assist in Technical Cryptography Analysis
Help identify weaknesses in cryptographic algorithms, protocols, or implementations.
Perform supervised reviews of cryptographic controls and key management processes.
  • Participate in second line security activities
Contribute to baseline reviews, assessments, and assurance tasks within the RBA&S Security organization.
Support reporting on cryptographic control effectiveness.
  • Awareness, Training & Stakeholder Support
Assist in creating and delivering training materials that improve cryptographic literacy across ASML.
Act as an approachable point of contact for teams seeking basic cryptographic guidance.

As part of the second line RBA&S Security organization, you can expect to work in a global, highly collaborative environment, active mentorship, challenging assignments, and exposure to enterprise level cryptographic security. We will challenge you to think ahead, shape solutions proactively, and grow alongside ASML’s technology and business ambitions.

Education and Experience

You bring foundational knowledge and clear motivation to grow your expertise.

You have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Cryptography, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of fundamental cryptographic concepts: symmetric / asymmetric cryptography; hashing and digital signatures; key exchange mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with cryptographic systems such as key management (KMS), certification authorities (PKI) and hardware security modules (HSM) (hands-on exposure is a plus).
  • 0–3 years of experience in cybersecurity, cryptography, or related fields (internships and academic projects count).
  • General understanding of industry security frameworks (e.g., NIST CSF, ISO 27001/2).

Preferred experience: Course work or hands-on exposure to cryptographic libraries or secure coding principles; Certifications on, or intention to pursue, Security+ or GIAC level fundamentals; Experience scripting or working with security tools.

Skills

To succeed in this role, you bring:

  • Strong communication skills; ability to explain concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Curiosity, eagerness to learn, and willingness to take initiative.
  • A collaborative mindset; comfortable in asking questions, seeking guidance, and supporting others.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment and adapt to evolving requirements.
  • A problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and accuracy.
