Starting this fall, ASML will launch a new technology education program together with Mad Science (link in Dutch). Called the ASML Junior Academy, the goal of the program is to offer technology lessons to all 271 primary schools in the Brainport Eindhoven region. This means that each year, approximately 60,000 children will receive technology lessons from Mad Science through the program. ASML Junior Academy aims to start in September with 50 primary schools. Teachers and primary school education (Dutch: ‘Pabo’) students will also be trained to be able to give these lessons themselves.
During the coming three years, primary schools have the option to register. All classes from participating schools will receive technology lessons six times a year, with one lesson focusing on the role of microchips in our daily lives. There are still a few spots available for the start in September.
ASML has been active in technical and STEM-related education for a long time. "Not all children are aware that there are a thousand opportunities waiting for them in engineering and sciences,” says Lucas van Grinsven, vice president of Communications at ASML. “We must continue to do everything we can to show young people the possibilities of this meaningful, valued, and job-secure work. Tech is where the future is and the need for talent will only grow. In fact, the young people that enter tech today will build our future.”
Frank Rienties, founder of Mad Science, agrees: “In this collaboration with ASML, we can take huge steps. What we offer is truly unique in the Netherlands. A wonderful opportunity to introduce technology to children, teachers, Pabo students and parents on a large scale. This is a program that will have an impact in the Brainport region,” he says.
