Announcement - Veldhoven, The Netherlands, December 18, 2025
The 21 municipalities in the Eindhoven Metropolitan Region (MRE) and ASML are taking an important next step toward better accessibility and future-proof mobility in the region. ASML has committed €93 million to the Beethoven mobility package, thereby increasing its contribution to further regional development. Previously, ASML invested in affordable housing in the 21 MRE municipalities, region-wide talent programs for equal opportunities, and the Brainport Partner Fund, which also includes other companies from the region.
With the signing of the Beethoven covenant in 2024, a major step was taken to enable balanced development of the region. At that time, the national government pledged a substantial investment package to stimulate talent development, accelerate affordable housing, and implement measures to improve accessibility. A condition was that the region—including municipalities and businesses—would also make a financial contribution.
Specifically, ASML is now committing €93 million for public infrastructure measures under the Beethoven program. This includes the construction of bicycle paths, high-quality public transport facilities in the region, and the development of the new underground bus station at Eindhoven Central Station—measures that improve accessibility for all residents of the Brainport region.
Multiple investment programs
This significant financial boost for mobility comes on top of other investment agreements from the national government, the province of North Brabant, the MRE municipalities, ASML, and regional businesses through the Brainport Partner Fund, which already has 50 companies participating within a year. To ensure balanced regional development that benefits all residents, the region is working on investment programs for better accessibility, affordable housing, talent development, social programs, and facilities for education, sports, and culture. In total, these investments amount to more than €4.5 billion.
The Brainport collaboration
This builds on the unique cooperation and design of these programs in the region. All levels of government work together with businesses. The national government covers roughly two-thirds of the investments; the province, 21 regional municipalities, and Brainport businesses together cover one-third. From the business side, the Brainport Partner Fund was established, which will contribute €219 million over 12 years. Recruitment is ongoing to ensure companies contribute according to their capacity. With the announcement of this additional mobility contribution, ASML increases its total investment in the joint regional funds. In addition, ASML continues to support initiatives through its social engagement programs, such as the ASML Marathon Eindhoven, ASML Junior Academy, “Samen Leren in Diversiteit,” and “Kansrijk opgroeien met Basiskracht.”
Quotes
Joost van Hees, Head of Public-Private Partnerships at ASML:
“In the end, it’s about a healthy region where all organizations, companies, and people have the opportunity to thrive. Our growth ambitions align with the region’s needs: opportunities for everyone, affordable housing for all, and good infrastructure. The roads in the region are congested—we notice it every day. This is inconvenient for everyone. ASML wants to contribute to solutions for the mobility problem. In addition to our participation in the Brainport Partner Fund, we are now making this extra financial contribution to ensure timely realization of public infrastructure projects in the Brainport region—for all people in the region.”
Stijn Steenbakkers, Chair of Economic Affairs MRE and Alderman in Eindhoven:
“Brainport Eindhoven is growing. That can only happen if we invest together in livability and accessibility. Through the Partner Fund, 50 companies have already joined in a short time to invest in housing, talent, mobility, and a socially strong region. And implementation is already visible: houses are being built, bike paths laid, and new talents trained. ASML’s renewed substantial investment shows how committed they are to the region. This extra commitment is a powerful example of our public-private Brainport collaboration, which is unique in the Netherlands. Together we ensure balanced growth that contributes to the prosperity, well-being, and future of our residents.”
Jeroen Rooijakkers, Alderman of Veldhoven:
“The strength of our region is that we dare to innovate together. ASML truly takes the lead,” says Jeroen Rooijakkers, Alderman for Mobility. “The Brainport region is growing rapidly, and that requires courage and cooperation. In this mobility agreement, governments and businesses work together on future-proof mobility. This shows how we innovate collectively and take responsibility. Together we strengthen the region and ensure we are ready for the mobility of tomorrow.”
