Introduction

Within ASML, the Mechatronics Research team in Veldhoven focuses on improving the accuracy of wafer stage positioning. Disturbances caused by cables and hoses can affect performance and limit precision. In this internship, you will help reduce these disturbances. You will work on a concept that improves reproducibility and stability of critical systems. This assignment offers hands-on engineering experience.

Your assignment

In this assignment, you will contribute to the design of a modular system that splits hoses and cables into controlled segments. You will collaborate closely with another intern and with a mentor to translate concepts into detailed designs. You will explore design trade-offs and optimize performance across several subsystems. Your main responsibilities will be:
•    Design and model a mechatronic subsystem using CAD
•    Define actuator concepts and positioning based on actuation requirements
•    Evaluate measurement system options and determine optimal placement
•    Validate design concepts through calculations and simulations
•    Collaborate with team members to iterate and improve system designs
This is a master’s or bachelor’s internship for minimum 6 months, minimum 4 days per week (3 days on-site). The start date of this internship is as of September 2026 and is flexible.

Your profile

To be suitable for the internship, you:
•    Are pursuing a master’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechatronics
•    Have strong CAD design skills and experience with mechanical modeling
•    Are analytical and able to translate complex problems into practical designs
•    Have a working knowledge on rigid body dynamics, structural analysis, hydraulics, and position measurement or interested in acquiring it
•    Are interested in machine design
•    Show initiative and communicate effectively with technical stakeholders
•    Enjoy teamwork and working on hands-on engineering challenges
This internship is ideal if you want to develop real-world design skills and contribute to advanced technology systems. During this internship, you will gain valuable experience working in a multidisciplinary environment and help improve system performance at the forefront of innovation.

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;

  • Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;

  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter needs to include the willingness to relocate.

  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
